The pioneer physician in digital transformation in rehabilitation

DNO - In recent times, Da Nang C Hospital has promoted the application of technology in rehabilitation, opening up new treatment directions alongside traditional methods. Under the leadership of Dr. Bui Van Hoi, Head of the Rehabilitation Department, patients treated after stroke, paralysis and nerve trauma have more opportunities to recover.

Applying technology to traditional therapy

In recent years, modern technology has made a significant change in the treatment of patients with central nervous system damage at Da Nang C Hospital. At the Department of Rehabilitation, patients experience the VRRS EVO virtual reality system through simulation games.

Mr. Truong Son Phu (born 1962, Thanh Khe ward) said: "In the first days of treatment, my body was still stiff, but through each exercise, the feeling of movement gradually returned. The exercises were lively so I was less tired and easier to follow."

According to technician Huynh Van Hieu, VRRS EVO not only supports movement, but also trains thinking, memory and coordination - important factors for stroke patients. In addition, the Gamma balance system helps to assess balance disorders in detail, thereby adjusting the treatment regimen to suit each case.

The MRG-P100 gait training robot is notable for its integrated 3D sensor and its use of artificial intelligence (AI) to personalize every minute of exercise. For post-stroke patients, the recovery journey can be long and frustrating, but with this device, every time they stand up, digital data is recorded, and every small improvement is clearly visible.

According to specialist II Dr. Bui Van Hoi, Head of the Department of Rehabilitation, initial research on 12 patients with cerebral infarction showed that after 3 weeks of intervention with robots, functional indicators improved significantly and the virtual reality system also brought a feeling of "participating in life", instead of just practicing repetitive movements that made patients impatient.

These are two of many AI-application devices in rehabilitation that the department pioneered in deploying, helping Da Nang C Hospital become the only unit in the Central Highlands region to apply digital technology in rehabilitation treatment.

Digital transformation efforts

From a department applying traditional methods, up to now, the Rehabilitation Department of Da Nang C Hospital has undergone a comprehensive transformation.

Through scientific seminars and the process of researching and applying digital technology to keep up with modern medical trends, Head of Department Bui Van Hoi built a digital transformation roadmap for a field that is traditionally associated with traditional treatment methods.

Under the leadership of Dr. Hoi, the department has built a systematic process, from staff training, clinical assessment, AI data analysis and individualization of each treatment case, to improving treatment methods and supporting doctors and technicians to have better and faster disease assessments.

Thanks to the efforts of the Rehabilitation Department team, many patients who seemed "hopeless" were able to stand up, walk and return to their normal lives.

Behind this change is Head of Department Bui Van Hoi, who has spent many years persistently pursuing the goal of making technology a tool to help patients recover better.

“Technology is not to replace people, but to help us understand patients better, measure progress more accurately and motivate them every day,” Dr. Bui Van Hoi shared.

Not only approaching new methods, Dr. Bui Van Hoi also built a comprehensive digital transformation strategy for the department, from the assessment process, treatment records to equipment operation and human resource training.

Right from the early days of applying walking assist robots, virtual reality or artificial intelligence in rehabilitation, Dr. Hoi saw the opportunity to improve the quality of treatment. He proactively proposed investing in equipment, building a deployment roadmap and directly training the team of technicians to quickly master the technology.

More than modern equipment, the most inspiring thing is the trust that doctors give to their patients.

Under his leadership, specialized teams and groups were established, training staff to master the operating mechanism and analyze treatment data. Thanks to that, the medical team quickly mastered the robotic and VR systems in a short time.

Dr. Nguyen Tan Dung, Deputy Director of Danang C Hospital, Vice President of Vietnam Rehabilitation Association, President of Danang Rehabilitation Association, highly appreciated the pioneering role of Dr. Bui Van Hoi.

Mr. Dung said that the Department of Rehabilitation is one of the leading units in the Central Highlands in applying digital technology to treatment. From investment proposals to operational implementation, Dr. Hoi directly monitors and supports staff in mastering technology, helping new treatment methods to be applied synchronously, improving the quality of recovery and improving the accuracy of treatment prognosis.

With his persistent efforts and remarkable effectiveness, in 2024, Dr. Bui Van Hoi was awarded many certificates of merit by the Ministry of Health, recognizing his pioneering role in digital transformation and application of modern technology in rehabilitation.
