"Lifebuoy" for the poor

Looking at the spacious house, the monthly income of more than 20 million VND and raising two children in university, few people know that Ms. Duong Thi Duyen's family (living in Chau Thanh commune) once went through a difficult period.

When they moved out, the couple had nothing. Both parents were poor and could not help them much. The couple worked for hire and saved up but still could not afford to buy livestock or rent land for farming. At that time, the couple's only assets were an old motorbike and the strong belief that "if you have health, you will have everything".

Sympathizing with the hardworking poor couple, the commune connected with the Social Policy Bank, creating conditions for them to borrow 50 million VND as capital to develop production. With this capital, she rented land to grow water mimosa. Luckily, the family had several successful vegetable crops, and life gradually stabilized.

With the profit from growing vegetables, she continued to buy cows for breeding and rented more land to grow water mimosa. After many years of saving, she was able to buy 5,000 ^{square meters} of land to grow water mimosa, build a spacious house, and send two children to university.

Ms. Duyen confided: “In the journey to escape poverty, my husband and I have never complained about our fate or been pessimistic or discouraged. We always strive and try our best to overcome difficulties. The timely support capital, encouragement and care from all levels and sectors, and the thoughts for the future of our children have given my husband and me more motivation and confidence to escape poverty sustainably and have a stable life like today.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong (residing in Tuyen Thanh commune) also had access to a capital of 100 million VND from the VBSP. With the capital, she rented land and bought agricultural materials to farm. Without this capital, her family would probably have lived in a situation of "lack of money in the beginning, lack of money in the end". Ms. Duong confided: "For the poor, preferential loans from the VBSP are a "lifesaver", a "key" to help families have the conditions to develop their household economy ".

Create favorable conditions for people

Social policy credit is one of the major policies of the Party and the State, with profound humanity, aiming to eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, support capital for low-income households, and those in difficult circumstances to have the conditions to rise up, contributing to ensuring social security and building new rural areas. Identifying this issue, all levels and sectors coordinate well with the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to promptly bring social policy credit capital to the subjects.

Social Policy Bank always accompanies the poor

Director of Kien Tuong Social Policy Bank Transaction Office - Pham Van Kiet said: "Immediately after implementing the 2-level local government, Kien Tuong Social Policy Bank Transaction Office ensures smooth, stable and uninterrupted operations in meeting the loan needs of poor households and other policy beneficiaries. Particularly for new areas after the merger, the unit coordinates well with other transaction offices to receive the handover and effectively implement social policy credit programs in the area. Currently, the total loan turnover reaches 132,975 billion VND, with over 2,080 loan customers. Loan capital is mainly focused on a number of credit programs such as poor households, near-poor households, newly escaped poverty households, clean water and rural environmental sanitation, job creation, students in difficult circumstances, etc.

Implementing the 2-level local government, the transaction points of the Social Policy Bank have not changed, creating convenience for people when coming to do transaction procedures. In particular, the Savings and Loan Groups have also operated without interruption, without leaving any vacant areas, without missing any subjects. Ms. Tran Thi Diep - Head of the Savings and Loan Group of Binh Tay Hamlet, Tuyen Thanh Commune, said: "I go to each house, check each subject to promptly bring preferential credit capital to those in need, at the same time urge to collect interest or capital, avoid cases of overdue debt, bad debt, affecting policy credit".

Timely bringing social policy credit capital to the people; creating all favorable conditions for disbursement and capital recovery; always accompanying the poor and families in difficult circumstances;... is not only the task of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, but thanks to that, thousands of poor people and families in difficult circumstances have had the conditions to escape poverty and stabilize their lives./.
