The risk of "ghost" power plants from the AI fever
The AI craze is inflating electricity demand, creating a bubble that risks costing people.

According to Business Insider, the AI boom is putting the US power grid under unprecedented pressure, leading to forecasts of skyrocketing electricity demand. Utilities apply for permission to build additional plants based on “placement” power requirements.
A single project can be filed in multiple states, causing multiple power companies to expand capacity unnecessarily. Residents risk paying higher bills for idle factories that never operate at full capacity.
Power companies are allowed to recover costs through electricity prices, inadvertently encouraging forecasts of higher demand than actual demand. Many forecasts far exceed the supply of GPUs and electricity, creating a dangerous bubble in the electricity industry. The Ohio Public Utilities Commission has issued regulations requiring data centers to pay for at least 85% of the electricity they subscribe to.
If left unchecked, the AI electricity forecasting bubble will become a long-term burden for households and businesses. Dear readers, please watch more videos : AI Trash Cleaning | Hanoi 18:00
