Nguyen Thi Oanh continued her impressive performance to win another gold medal for the Vietnamese Athletics team at the SEA Games 33 on the afternoon of December 16th.
In the 3,000m steeplechase final, Vietnam's "Queen of Athletics," Nguyen Thi Oanh, brilliantly won, finishing first with a time of 10 minutes 13.74 seconds. This achievement helped Nguyen Thi Oanh complete a "hat-trick" of 3 gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games, and simultaneously increased her total number of gold medals in the Games to 15. Previously, this runner had won three consecutive SEA Games, with impressive records including 10 minutes 34 seconds 37 (2023), 9 minutes 52 seconds 44 (SEA Games record 2021), and 10 minutes 00 seconds 02 (2019).

In previous days of competition, Nguyen Thi Oanh also excelled, winning two gold medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m events at this year's tournament. In the women's 5,000m race, Nguyen Thi Oanh was unrivaled against her competitors, finishing first with a time of 16 minutes 27 seconds 13.
This victory helped Nguyen Thi Oanh set a record of winning the top position in this event five times in a row at the SEA Games.
In the 10,000m event, she also lived up to fans' expectations by brilliantly winning the gold medal. Nguyen Thi Oanh continued her dominance, leaving her competitors far behind to finish first with a time of 34 minutes 27 seconds 93, far surpassing her previous best at the SEA Games 32.
Thanks to Nguyen Thi Oanh's impressive performance, the Vietnamese sports delegation has won 43 gold medals, continuing to be in the top 3 of the SEA Games 33 medal standings.

On the same day of competition, in the women's 4x400m relay, athletes Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, Nguyen Thi Hang, Le Thi Tuyet Mai, and Nguyen Thi Ngoc excellently finished first with a time of 3 minutes 32 seconds 59 to win the gold medal, far ahead of the teams from Thailand and the Philippines.

Earlier, athlete Tran Thi Loan won the gold medal in the women's long jump with a performance of 6.53m; and athlete Bui Thi Kim Anh excellently won the gold medal in the high jump, officially fulfilling the target of 12 gold medals for Vietnamese athletics.

Most disappointingly, the men's 4x400m relay team, consisting of four athletes Tran Nhat Hoang, Ta Ngoc Tuong, Vu Ngoc Khanh, and Le Ngoc Phuc, only won the silver medal after losing to a naturalized Thai athlete in the final meters.

Thus, at the conclusion of the athletics competition at the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnamese athletics team had achieved its target of winning 12 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals.
