On the morning of December 7, Vietnam badminton officially started at the 33rd SEA Games in the women's team event. In this event, we will face a strong opponent, Malaysia. The competition format includes 5 matches: 3 singles and 2 doubles.
Nguyen Thuy Linh won her first match at SEA Games 33.
In the first singles match, Nguyen Thuy Linh represented Vietnam to compete with Malaysia's No. 1 tennis player - Karupathevan Letshanaa (ranked 42nd in the world ).
In the first set, Thuy Linh continuously took the lead thanks to her good use of backhands. On the contrary, Karupathevan Letshanaa also played very impressively, following closely behind.
But from the score of 13-13, Letshanaa started to break away. The Malaysian player showed good stretching ability, powerful and dangerous smashes. Letshanaa increased the gap and won 21-15 in the first set.
With the mental advantage after the victory, Letshanaa entered the game quite quickly in the second set and led 3-1 against Thuy Linh.
On the opposite side of the court, Vietnam's number 1 female tennis player, after a bad start, gradually regained her concentration and led her opponent 10-5. After that, Thuy Linh played better and better and ended the second set with a 21-10 victory.
In the deciding game, Karupathevan Letshanaa again showed dominance in the early stages when leading 12-7. But with a resilient fighting spirit, Thuy Linh narrowed the gap to 11-12.
Finally, the Vietnamese female tennis player completed the comeback with a thrilling 23-21 victory.
With that, Nguyen Thuy Linh won 2-1 against Karupathevan Letshanaa. This is the first victory of Vietnamese badminton at SEA Games 33.
