Vietnam's number one badminton player, Nguyen Thuy Linh, will kick off the season by participating in the Super 750 India Open 2026, held in New Delhi, India, from January 13th to 18th.

Not being seeded at a major Super 750 event, Thùy Linh will face strong opponents in the early rounds. Indeed, the draw has placed the "Miss Badminton Vietnam" in a difficult bracket in the qualifying round.

In her opening match, Thùy Linh will face former world champion Pusarla Venkata Sindhu. The two are no strangers to each other; in fact, the Vietnamese representative won both encounters last year. However, in this rematch, Thùy Linh is clearly considered a notch below her opponent.

Despite her somewhat inconsistent performances, PV Sindhu remains a top-class player once she's in form. Last week, the world's richest female badminton player had an outstanding performance at the Super 1000 Malaysia Open: easily defeating Sung Shuo-yun and the young talent Tomoka Miyazaki in two games, then beating Akane Yamaguchi 21-11 in game 1 before "Robot Cat" retired, thus securing a place in the semi-finals where she only lost to Wang Zhiyi.

In this tournament, PV Sindhu will have an added advantage with the support of their home crowd. A challenging match awaits Thùy Linh.

If Thuy Linh defeats the pride of the host country's badminton, she will most likely face world number 2 Wang Zhiyi in the round of 16. In the event of a major upset against Wang, Tomoka Miyazaki or Supanida Katethong are also waiting for the player from Phu Tho in the quarterfinals.

Two other very strong opponents in the same bracket leading to the semi-finals are the Tokyo Olympic champion, Chen Yufei, and Han Yue.

In the past, Nguyen Thuy Linh has never advanced beyond the first round of the India Open. Last season, she suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Yeo Jia Min.

After the India Open, Thuy Linh will travel to Indonesia to compete in the Super 500 Indonesia Masters 2026 (January 20-25).
