As a female scientist hoping that her research will be useful to society, Dr. Phan Thi Pham (Head of Environmental Science Department, Lac Hong University) always closely links her research field with the development of the locality and the community.
Dong Nai is a province that develops not only industry but also agriculture. Currently, Dong Nai is interested in building a green economy and a circular economy in industrial and agricultural development. Therefore, Dr. Phan Thi Pham's research focuses on cultivating algae from wastewater from manufacturing industries, to treat wastewater, reduce the risk of environmental pollution caused by wastewater and collect algae biomass.
This algae biomass can be applied in many fields, including creating biofuels such as ethanol, biohydrogen. Another research direction or perhaps another source of raw materials that she chose to create biofuels is agricultural waste. Creating biofuels from waste contributes to reducing waste to the environment, while providing more renewable biofuels for society, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aiming for the net-zero goal, to reduce the impact of climate change.

In addition, when implemented, these topics will increase economic value for agricultural production, contributing to improving people's lives.
Sharing about her teaching work, she said that when guiding students to carry out a scientific project on algae farming for biomass combined with wastewater treatment, at first, the students were very confused and encountered many difficulties in algae farming, some young people even wanted to give up. "But after many failures, we found a solution together and the project achieved good results. The moment the students saw the results of their efforts, those smiles and proud eyes moved me. I realized that my patience and support had created a turning point for them," she shared.
Phan Thi Pham graduated from the University of Natural Sciences in Ho Chi Minh City, where she was equipped with basic knowledge in the field of environment. After that, she continued her advanced studies at the University of Technology in Ho Chi Minh City, and at the same time, experienced practical knowledge at an environmental research and consulting unit.
With the knowledge and experience she has gained, she has started her teaching career at Lac Hong University, Dong Nai, until now.
For her, standing on the podium, helping students understand the subject content to prepare for future work, really brings her great joy. The laboratory is where she satisfies her curiosity and exploration. From then on, she realized that both of these environments are indispensable parts of her life.
Sharing about the difficulties of doing scientific research, Ms. Pham said that spending time on research requires her to concentrate highly and spend a lot of time, while her family also needs care, especially when she has small children. Sometimes, she has to sacrifice personal time or rest to complete research work or participate in topics.
"However, the support from my family, especially my husband and children, helped me overcome these difficulties and continue to contribute to science. I believe that with passion and perseverance, women can succeed and achieve many achievements in the field of research, regardless of the initial difficulties," the female scientist shared.
According to Dr. Phan Thi Pham, to help women do scientific research and contribute to the country, it is necessary to first create an equal environment and encourage women's participation in science and technology fields. Some specific solutions include: Developing policies to support women, especially in the workplace; strengthening training programs and scholarships specifically for women to help them develop their research careers. At the same time, it is necessary to promote forums and conferences so that women can share experiences, learn from each other and assert their position. This support will help women contribute more actively to the cause of innovation and development of the country.
With the philosophy of "always learning and constantly striving", she always tries to find opportunities to improve herself and contribute to the community. That is why she chose the field of studying, researching and teaching about the environment, which is both beneficial for herself and meaningful for society.
