On the morning of December 27th, in Hanoi , the Central Emulation and Commendation Council solemnly organized the 11th National Emulation Congress, with the participation of 2,223 delegates, including 198 invited guests and 2,025 official delegates.

At the congress, 17 collectives and individuals with exceptionally outstanding achievements in the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland were awarded the titles of Hero of the People's Armed Forces and Hero of Labor by the Party and the State.

Among the individuals awarded the title of Hero of Labor, there is Mr. Vu Huu Le, Director of Hong Ha Mechanical and Construction Company Limited ( Lao Cai Province) – affectionately known as "the farmer's inventor".

"My passion is manufacturing machinery. It allows me to employ workers, pay taxes, contribute to society, and provide machinery for farmers. The more I work, the healthier I become, and the more I contribute to the country, the happier I am," Mr. Le shared in a report broadcast at the congress.

During the Q&A session at the congress, Mr. Vu Huu Le, now over 90 years old, but still sharp-minded and healthy, brought to the congress objects that have been with him from his youth to the present day, reflecting his passion for creating hundreds of types of machinery to serve farmers.

Mr. Le shared that he was born and raised in a poor rural area of Phu Tho province. At the age of 19, he attended a class to build bridges and roads to serve the resistance war. When peace was restored, he switched to working in economics . Later, he was sent to study in the Soviet Union and received a distinction degree. Upon returning to Vietnam, he worked as the director of the province's mechanical factory with about 600 workers for 18 years. Later, he requested early retirement four years before his scheduled retirement and started trading scrap metal to manufacture machinery.

“Back then, the Soviet tea rolling machine was very expensive, costing 300-400 million dong, while gold was only 100,000 dong per tael,” Mr. Le said. Later, he designed and manufactured a tea rolling machine, selling it for only 30 million dong, which greatly helped farmers.

Answering the question of why he always chooses to design and manufacture machinery to serve farmers, Mr. Vu Huu Le shared that he comes from a poor farming background, having once plowed and harrowed, and deeply understands the hardships of farmers. He himself has a great passion for manufacturing machinery, and after being given the opportunity to study by the Party and the State, upon returning, he vowed to "dedicate his life to serving in machinery manufacturing."

Mr. Le said that his motivation for creating machines for farmers was that when he went down to the farm, the farmers would show him what needed improvement and what needed to be done.

Recalling the design and manufacture of the tea rolling machine, he said that at the time, the market price was 300-400 million VND per unit, but he sold it for 30 million VND. He sold 500 machines in a year. "I only set a profit margin of about 3-5%, mainly to serve the farmers," Mr. Le shared.

Mr. Vu Huu Le also emphasized that his company's principle is to manufacture machines that are suitable for farmers, easy to use, easy to repair, and often allow for installment payments.

Sharing further, Mr. Vu Huu Le said that, in terms of material things, he is a person who "restrains himself in his daily life." In terms of spirit, he has always received timely encouragement from the Party and State leaders, and leaders at all levels.

Mr. Le said this was the third time he had attended the National Emulation Congress and had received approximately 200 commendations from central to local levels.

During the recent floods in the North, Mr. Vu Huu Le's company also suffered significant damage. However, according to Mr. Le, he received great encouragement and support from leaders at all levels. "In just 7 days, we were able to restore the equipment. I think it's necessary to restore the most essential things to help people fight the floods," Mr. Le shared.
