Magical Christmas scene in the city center
In early December, the Christmas atmosphere filled the central area of Ho Chi Minh City when Notre Dame Cathedral was splendidly decorated. This was the third time this iconic structure was decorated since the restoration process began in 2017, attracting a large number of people and tourists to visit.
A special highlight this year is the lighting system with 1,000 km of LED lights, double the number of last year. New decorative motifs such as globes, stars and bells are arranged along the roof tiles, while two zinc towers are decorated with LED lights to create a unique Christmas tree shape.

The moment we look forward to every night
At exactly 6:45 pm every day, to the sound of the church bells, the entire decorative lighting system lights up simultaneously, starting from the bell tower and gradually spreading to the roof, creating a spectacular scene. This moment attracts hundreds of people waiting to record.
Many people, including tourists, chose to sit in the upper lobby of a nearby shopping mall to get a panoramic view. This area is free to enter and is always crowded with people "hunting" for the moment the church lights up.

Bustling festival atmosphere
Not only from above, the festive atmosphere also spread throughout the area around the church. Below, many people sat and played in front of the statue of Our Lady of Peace . The neighboring streets such as Dong Khoi, Cong Xa Paris and Le Duan also became more bustling as many passersby stopped their vehicles to take photos.
Inside the church grounds, there is also a large grotto with miniature scenes recreating the Christmas story, adding to the warm and meaningful atmosphere of the holiday season.

Information to know when visiting
Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon, officially known as the Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, was started in 1877 and completed after three years. This is one of the unique architectural works and a must-see destination in Ho Chi Minh City.
- Lights up time: 18:45 daily.
- Travel Notes: The later it gets, the more crowded it gets, which can cause local congestion on surrounding roads. Visitors should consider appropriate means of transportation.
- Christmas Mass: Will be celebrated on December 24 and 25.
The decorative lighting system uses heat-free LED bulbs, ensuring safety for trees and the structure of the building being renovated, while helping to save operating costs.
