Not only attracting attention by the return of the trio of characters that have entered the memories of many generations, the book "The Little Neighbor Girl and the Four Candies" (published by Tre Publishing House) also opens up a completely new context: Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City in the 1980s, the subsidy period with old apartments, Palikao Bridge, the rhythm of life of working for a living, family love and neighborly love filled with sharing. The feelings of people living abroad, especially poor immigrants, are depicted through the connection between the families of Thieu, Man, and Tuong with the little girl A Lin, the old lady A Pho and the people around.

"The little girl next door and the four candies" - the latest work of writer Nguyen Nhat Anh.
The 240-page work still retains the clear, witty writing style familiar to Nguyen Nhat Anh, but with many innovations. This is also the first time the author has put himself into a book as a character, while interweaving first and third person narratives to create emotional depth. The details recall the time when newspapers flourished, with a special edition that comes with a sketchbook, as an invitation for readers to nurture their creativity and beautiful memories of literature.
Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh said the book is not the second part of "I see yellow flowers on the green grass" but an independent story, where the old characters appear with a new, younger spirit to fit the plot. What he wants to convey is still the message that runs through many works: kindness and compassion always have the ability to awaken the seeds of goodness in each person, especially when growing up amidst many changes.

Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh interacts and signs autographs for readers.
On the occasion of the book's release, writer Nguyen Nhat Anh donated 80 million VND in royalties to support people in the Central region affected by storms and floods; Tre Publishing House contributed an additional 100 million VND through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
With "The Neighbor Girl and Four Candies", Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh continues to maintain a steady stream of writing one work a year, both to meet readers and to keep the fire of creativity alive for himself. At the age of 70, he still chooses childhood as the place to return to in literature, with a new mark rich in nostalgia, simple but warm.
