Japanese beverage giant Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. said on November 27 that an investigation showed that personal data of about 2 million customers may have been leaked in a cyber attack that occurred in late September this year.
At a press conference in Tokyo, President and CEO Atsushi Katsuki publicly apologized and said the cyber attack on September 29 caused a serious system failure, forcing the group to suspend a series of important activities such as order processing, delivery of goods and customer care services.
Due to the incident, Asahi had to postpone the announcement of its financial report for the third quarter of 2025 and faced the risk of declining business results. However, the group's leaders affirmed that the medium and long-term management plan remains unchanged.
Asahi said production at its six domestic plants resumed just a week after the attack. Order processing and delivery processes, which are still manual, are expected to be fully restored from December, with logistics operations expected to return to normal by February 2026.
The attack was carried out by the Qilin hacker group. The system disruption caused many restaurants, bars and stores in Japan to fall into a shortage of Asahi beer, including Super Dry - the company's best-selling product./.
