Many infrastructure works in mountainous areas affected by storms and floods need to be repaired soon.

In the border commune of Son Thuy, statistics after storm No. 10 show that the greatest extent of damage is concentrated in traffic and irrigation works. Son Thuy Bridge on National Highway 16 at Km89+580 completely collapsed the asphalt road leading to the bridge at the beginning of the route towards Hien Kiet commune, causing local isolation for many days. Meanwhile, the section of National Highway 16 through Hang Dua area (Km91+100, bordering Muong Min commune) was heavily eroded, the road surface was hollow, only a thin layer of concrete remained on top, posing a risk of collapse at any time.

Many infrastructure works in mountainous areas affected by storms and floods need to be repaired soon.

In addition, the locality had 8 landslides with a volume of about 1,000m3 of soil. Many underground and residential spillways such as Thuy Son, Xia Noi, and Mua Xuan villages were flooded, causing erosion and damage. In particular, the spillway from Muong and Coc villages was severely eroded, with many locations reaching a depth of up to 3m, with the base of the tray washed away and the reinforced structure downstream damaged, making traffic very difficult. The irrigation system also suffered significant damage: Na Sang Dam (Muong village) had its dam surface damaged; Thuy Thanh canal was covered by landslides covering about 50m, affecting the production of many households.

Similarly, the storm washed away and damaged three irrigation works, including the Na San dam, Xop Huoi village, Na Pong and Cha Khot of Na Meo commune. The flood protection embankment in Bo hamlet, Bo Hieng village, about 30m long, was completely destroyed. The locality also recorded seven landslides on inter-village roads, including two negative slope locations 50-100m long and many positive slope landslides in Sa Na, Cha Khot and Bo Hieng villages, causing local traffic congestion for many days. Particularly, the road leading to Sa Na village, the right bank of Son stream through the village, had a negative slope landslide about 100m long, of which nearly 30m had collapsed into the stream bed, leaving many large cracks that could widen at any time.

Mr. Ngan Van Theu, head of Sa Na village, said: “The road through Son stream is the main traffic artery of the villagers. Now the road has collapsed, making it impossible to travel, causing disruption to trade and travel. The most dangerous thing is that the cultural house and many households are located right next to the embankment. If the rain and floods continue, it will be difficult to avoid incidents. We really hope that the authorities at all levels will have a long-term solution to ensure safety.”

The Son Thuy Commune Government proposed the Provincial People's Committee to soon support funding for the construction of Xia Stream Bridge and Muong Village to ensure traffic and promote local economic development. The locality also proposed to invest in embankments to prevent landslides on the banks of the Luong River along National Highway 16 from the Son Thuy Bridge area to Thuy Son Village, to protect the safety of dozens of households, the commune police headquarters, cultural houses and production facilities along the river. At the same time, the Son Thuy Bridge and the Hang Dua section of National Highway 16, which is the "blood vessel" of traffic connecting the Son Thuy border area with Muong Min Commune and Hien Kiet Commune, should be repaired soon.

In Na Meo commune, the post-flood recovery work is also being focused on by the police, border guards, militia and people. After many days of efforts, the main roads have been cleared, ensuring people's travel and transportation of goods. In dangerous landslide areas, the commune authorities have placed warning signs, erected road barriers, and banned people and vehicles from traveling until safety is ensured. In addition, households affected by landslides and at risk of insecurity have been mobilized by the authorities to move to temporary housing. Na Meo commune authorities have proposed financial support to restore damaged irrigation works and flood barriers, helping people to stabilize production soon. Regarding the landslide in Sa Na village, the Provincial People's Committee has also declared an emergency situation of landslides on the right bank of Son stream. Na Meo commune People's Committee has organized barriers, put up warning signs, and propagated to help people proactively prevent it. However, to ensure people's travel and trade development, it is necessary to soon have investment solutions to overcome the landslide situation here.
