Many localities simultaneously responded to Environment Day

In Quy Nhon City

On June 4, at Victory Square, Quy Nhon City, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh Province organized a provincial-level rally to respond to World Environment Day on June 5 and the Month of Action for the Environment in 2023. Attending the rally were representatives of the Provincial People's Committee, representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Vietnam and about 1,000 people including officials, people, students, union members, workers and employees of provincial and city-level agencies and units.

World Environment Day (June 5, 2023) was launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with the theme "Solutions to plastic pollution" focusing on the campaign "Fighting plastic pollution". The theme of World Environment Day 2023 aims to strongly convey the message of building a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature; rationally using natural resources, biodiversity and adapting to climate change; controlling and solving plastic waste pollution through policies, initiatives and participating in global and regional cooperation mechanisms; moving towards a greener, cleaner lifestyle; increasing recycling and reuse; promoting the building of a green economy , circular economy and sustainable development; effectively implementing anti-plastic waste policies.

During the month of action for the environment, the province promoted propaganda and mobilized officials and people to raise environmental awareness, use natural resources economically and effectively, say no to using plastic bags; organize activities to clean the environment, collect and treat waste and garbage; clear the flow, dredge canals, ponds, lakes, drainage systems, etc.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee shared: "A clean, unpolluted living environment is where we have the conditions to develop ourselves comprehensively. A polluted living environment will have difficulty developing and will cause many disease consequences. Therefore, right now, each of us must be a pioneer in changing our thinking and attitude towards behaviors that harm the environment, which is to change the quality of our lives. It is time for us to act more boldly for a sustainable living environment. Let's protect the environment with the smallest actions. Each of us together doing a small action will have great results. Let's act to protect nature, the environment, and our earth."

At the Mitt-ting Ceremony, there was a Signing Ceremony of the Regulations on coordination in environmental protection work for the period 2023-2025 between the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Provincial Women's Union and Binh Dinh Provincial Youth Union; Signing a Commitment to reduce plastic waste of a number of large tourist areas and hotels in the province.

After the Mit-ting, there were activities to visit the exhibition area of recycled construction materials from plastic waste; the program "Exchange plastic waste for gifts"; a parade to promote propaganda along the route from Le Thanh Ton - Tran Hung Dao - Le Hong Phong - Ly Thuong Kiet - Nguyen Thai Hoc - Tay Son - Nguyen Hue - Victory Square. Officials and people of Le Loi, Hai Cang, Tran Phu wards of Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh Environmental Joint Stock Company, Quy Nhon CVCX & CSDT Joint Stock Company participated in cleaning up along the coast, from Victory Square to Quy Nhon Strait, cleaning up the water surface of Quy Nhon Fishing Port area.

Hoai Nhon Town

Previously, on June 3, at Tam Quan Bac Ward beach (Hoai Nhon Town), the Department of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with the Town People's Committee to organize a rally to respond to Vietnam Sea and Islands Week (June 1 - June 8), World Oceans Day June 8, World Environment Day June 5, a propaganda parade and a campaign to clean up the beach in the area. Attending the rally were departments, offices, political and social organizations of the town along with nearly 300 union members and youth from 6 coastal communes/wards in the town.

Through the ceremony, it aims to raise awareness and responsibility of authorities at all levels, communities and people on the work of comprehensive management of resources, protection of the marine and island environment in particular and the environment in general; the role, position and importance of Vietnam's sea and islands in the cause of national construction and protection; create positive changes in action, contribute to the successful implementation of tasks of developing the marine economy, associated with environmental protection, and at the same time promote the cultural traditions of Hoai Nhon people "Love for homeland, country, solidarity, creativity, diligence, honesty, humanity, and loyalty".

An Nhon Town

Also on June 3 at the Poet Yen Lan Memorial House, in Hoa Cu area, Nhon Hung ward, An Nhon town, an exhibition of children's paintings and propaganda posters on the theme of "fighting plastic waste pollution" in response to World Environment Day June 5, organized by Yen Lan Club. Attending the event were many children aged 3-10, students of Nhon Hung Kindergarten, students of primary schools - members of the Young Artists Club (An Nhon town).

The above activity aims to help children realize that most of the waste from the shore, if not collected, will follow the rivers and streams to the sea, which is very difficult to decompose. On that basis, Yen Lan Club and Young Artist Club want to contribute to changing children's awareness, helping them love and join hands to protect the natural environment. In addition, the Youth Union and students of high schools in the town also organized a campaign to clean up residential areas and public areas.

In island and peninsula communes of Quy Nhon city

During the 2 days, June 3-4, the localities of Nhon Hai peninsula commune and Nhon Chau and Nhon Ly island communes also simultaneously launched a general cleaning campaign for the entire commune and beach area in response to World Environment Day and the month of action for the environment. Previously, on April 25, the Nhon Hai commune coral protection team organized to catch crown-of-thorns starfish and clean up trash under the sea in the Hon Kho Nho sea area (Nhon Hai commune). As a result, the team dived, caught 3 crown-of-thorns starfish and collected 8 kg of trash.

It can be seen that activities in response to World Environment Day, Sea and Island Week, and Environmental Action Month have taken place in all regions of the province, targeting all subjects from children to the elderly. These activities have created a great influence, contributing to raising public awareness in protecting the environment, reducing plastic waste in the environment, conserving natural resources and biodiversity towards a sustainable life in harmony with nature.
