
On the morning of May 8th, the 8th Hai Phong City Scientific Conference on Cancer Prevention and Control was held at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital.
The workshop was attended by Associate Professor, Dr. Le Minh Quang, Director of the Hai Phong Department of Health ; Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Dieu, President of the Vietnam Cancer Society. Also present were leaders of Oncology Hospitals, Oncology Centers, and experts, scientists, engineers, doctors, and technicians from hospitals nationwide.

Currently, cancer remains a very common disease, affecting the health of patients and creating a significant burden on society as a whole.
According to GLOBOCAN 2022, Vietnam ranks 101st out of 185 countries worldwide in cancer incidence. It is estimated that there are 180,480 new cases and 120,184 deaths annually. Currently, there are 409,144 cancer patients nationwide.

The Hai Phong City Cancer Prevention Workshop was first held in 2003 and has been held seven times since then.
This workshop aims to exchange knowledge and techniques that have been and are being applied in Vietnam in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
The workshop included discussion sessions on liver cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, immunotherapy, cell therapy and nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, gynecological cancer, urological cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, blood and hematopoietic diseases – molecular biology GPB, and nursing. It also included a training program on esophageal cancer, challenges and advances in treatment.

Experts and scientists presented reports, research, shared experiences, and updated on advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Specifically, topics included the effectiveness of cyclotron accelerators in cancer treatment; multimodal treatment for inoperable non-small cell lung cancer patients; management of central nervous system metastases in EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer; and the benefits of subcutaneous injection formulations in the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer. The workshop also addressed the prospects and challenges of cancer vaccines and several new therapies in treatment.
