Mr. Le Danh Tien boldly changed his investment direction to deer farming.

Having tried many livestock models but encountered difficulties due to the epidemic, in 2022, Mr. Le Danh Tien, village 15, boldly changed his investment direction to deer farming. Initially, he invested nearly 80 million VND to buy 4 breeding animals and built more than 200 square meters of barns. He also proactively planted dozens of banana trees as a food source for the deer. Up to now, after 3 years, the deer herd has grown to 10, of which 4 are harvested for velvet, bringing in a revenue of more than 40 million VND per year.

Deer have many advantages such as few diseases, easy to find food, and easy to consume antlers.

Mr. Tien shared: "Deer have many advantages such as few diseases, easy to find food, and easy to consume antlers. After learning about the deer farming model in Huong Son, I boldly invested. If you want to do business, you have to be bold, dare to think, dare to do, and be willing to learn techniques. During the antlers season, you have to add more nutrition to make the antlers beautiful and of good quality; the barns also have to be cleaned regularly to limit diseases. In the near future, my family plans to increase the herd size to about 30 animals."

Mr. Tien actively sources food for raising deer.

Not far away, Mr. Le Van Cong is also one of the people who boldly chose a new direction in economic development, which is raising commercial bamboo rats. After working in many places but with unstable income, he decided to return to his hometown to start a business.

At the end of 2024, Mr. Cong started with 10 pairs of bamboo rats. Now, after more than 1 year, the bamboo rat herd has grown to 60. Raising bamboo rats is quite simple, the main food is from leaves, bamboo, sugarcane...; meanwhile, the selling price is quite high. Therefore, the bamboo rat breeding model is bringing in a good income for Mr. Cong's family.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Luc - Cong's mother, said: "With a passion for animal husbandry, my son went to farms in Nghi Xuan to learn experience and techniques in raising bamboo rats. At first, the family was worried because this was a new model in the locality, but nearly a year has shown that his direction is right. Bamboo rats are easy to care for, the market is good, many people come to the house to buy them, especially the pink-cheeked bamboo rats which are more expensive."

Not only raising deer and bamboo rats, in Thach Ha commune, many new economic models have been developed such as raising apple snails, civets, box crabs, integrated farms, and producing and trading OCOP products. Local people also effectively exploit the water surface potential with 181.8 hectares of saltwater - brackish - freshwater aquaculture. From there, many high-tech models such as raising shrimp, fish, crabs... have been born, bringing about clear results.

In addition, taking advantage of the northern gateway to the center of the province with a convenient transportation system, especially National Highway 1 running through, the commune's trade and service models are also developing strongly. Many new shops, restaurants, and mini supermarkets have been opened, creating conditions for people to expand their business and consume products.

Thach Ha people effectively exploit the water surface potential with 181.8 hectares of saltwater - brackish - freshwater aquaculture.

Mr. Le Van Thuan - Vice Chairman of Thach Ha Commune People's Committee said: "Implementing national target programs on sustainable poverty reduction and new rural construction, the commune proactively reviews effective economic models to introduce and guide people to implement; reviews poor and near-poor households to support livelihoods and economic development. At the same time, efforts are made to promote the diversification of economic models, taking advantage of the locality and neighboring areas to develop trade and services. Currently, there are many new models in the area such as deer, bamboo rats, apple snails, civets, etc. that are proving effective and are expected to be replicated."

Also according to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Ha commune, in the coming time, the locality will continue to improve policies to support economic models for people; organize tours of effective business models to spread the spirit of innovation, helping people confidently develop the economy right in their homeland.
