Although they had 4 days off, Minh Anh's family in Ha Nam only went out on September 2 and 3, considering it a weekend vacation.
The new school year is approaching, and he just returned from summer vacation in early August, so Minh Anh and his wife and children did not plan to take a long vacation this time. However, because he still wanted the children to relax before the new school year, he chose a short vacation in Sam Son, Thanh Hoa . In addition, he also chose to go in the middle of the vacation to avoid the crowds.
"Leaving home on the first day, there will definitely be traffic jams, people are leaving the city in droves. Coming back home on the last day, there will definitely be traffic jams too, so I chose to go on the middle two days, to relax and not be crowded," said Minh Anh. His family departed at 6am on September 2 and arrived in Sam Son after 2 hours, while his friend who left the day before took nearly 5 hours.
Similarly, Ms. Anh Ngoc's family in Hanoi also chose a two-day camping trip in Trang An (Ninh Binh). On April 30, her family traveled to Da Nang, and last summer they traveled to Phu Quoc, so "this is just a quick vacation, like a weekend trip". On the September 2 holiday, Ms. Hang's family gathered at her grandparents' house for the remaining days.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Director of Marketing and Communications Department of Fiditour Travel Company, as predicted before the holiday, the trend of families going on a 2-day vacation is quite high. "The September 2nd holiday is also a time for many families to take a quick vacation before the new school year, so the number of visitors is not expected to be as crowded as the summer peak, with a duration of only about two days. Only a few destinations in the outbound market (overseas visitors) have a vacation longer than 4 days, for those who have planned for a long time, but it accounts for a very small number," said Ms. Thu.
In fact, after the first three days of the holiday, tourists flocked to nearby destinations and the number of people staying in big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City was very high, unlike other holidays of the year. Entertainment spots like the Zoo and Botanical Gardens and water parks in Ho Chi Minh City were packed from early morning. In Hanoi, the Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hoa Lo Prison, Phan Dinh Phung Street, Hoan Kiem Lake, and the Old Quarter were always packed with people. Restaurants and coffee shops were all operating at 2-3 times the normal capacity.
People who leave the city go to places within 200 km, near Hanoi such as Sam Son (Thanh Hoa), Vinh (Nghe An), Ha Long (Quang Ninh), or near Ho Chi Minh City such as Vung Tau, Mui Ne (Phan Thiet), Can Tho. These places all welcome thousands to tens of thousands of visitors every day during the first two days of the holiday. "My family only stays at the resort to relax, so we don't encounter the crowded scene at the public beach," Ngoc Anh added about his trip to Sam Son.
This is also reflected more clearly when coastal cities, places that require long distance travel by plane or long drive, are no longer attractive to tourists, such as Nha Trang, Da Lat, Hoi An, Hue, Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Phu Quoc.
Specifically, the number of rooms in Da Lat is only 50% filled, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang beaches are deserted, Hoi An ancient town is no longer crowded like in the summer or April 30 holiday. There are still many air tickets to these places close to the holiday, even a few hundred thousand cheaper than in the summer. In addition, due to bad weather in the Central region, the number of people coming here has decreased.

Ms. Vu Bich Hue, representative of Flamingo RedTours Company, said that September 2 is the transition period between summer and autumn. Beach trips have ended, new destinations are not yet "hot", so nearby, relaxing destinations are the choice of many people. "In the near future, the Northeast and Northwest routes will be bustling, when the rice fields begin to ripen. Many people will spend time on these trips, in September or early October," Ms. Hue said.
