On the afternoon of February 13th (the 26th day of the 12th lunar month), the last working day before the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Horse, many people began leaving Hanoi to return to their hometowns. From early afternoon, the atmosphere at major bus stations became bustling as crowds of people carrying luggage flocked to find the earliest buses.

According to VTC News reporters at My Dinh bus station, the number of passengers traveling on inter-provincial routes has increased rapidly compared to previous days. The waiting area and ticket counters are becoming increasingly crowded by the hour.

Many people brought gift bags, large suitcases, and lots of other belongings in preparation for a long holiday.

Le Minh Ngan (a student at a university in Hanoi) arrived at the bus station early in the afternoon to return to Phu Tho . Ngan said she had just finished her morning part-time job and rushed back to her rented room to pack her bags before heading straight to the station. “I was afraid it would be crowded and difficult to buy a ticket if I waited too long. The earlier I get home, the better, so I can have dinner with my family,” Ngan said.

Not only students, but many workers also choose to arrive at the bus station one to two hours before departure time. Mr. Tran Minh Vu (from Yen Bai province) said that his bus was scheduled to leave at 5 PM, but he arrived around 2 PM. "Everyone is going home for the holidays at the end of the year, so I was afraid there wouldn't be any seats left. It's better to arrive early and wait than to arrive at the last minute and not get a ticket," he shared.

As the afternoon drew to a close, the waiting area at My Dinh bus station became increasingly crowded. Some passengers looked exhausted after hours of traveling and waiting.

Many people took advantage of the opportunity to lean back against their luggage and take a nap right there in the waiting area.

The little child slept in their parents' arms while waiting for the vehicle to pull into position to pick up passengers.

According to forecasts from Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company, during the peak Tet holiday period, My Dinh bus station could receive approximately 17,000 passengers per day, an increase of over 350% compared to normal days. The number of bus trips is expected to exceed 950 per day, focusing on routes to Hoa Binh, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau, Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, and other localities.

At Giap Bat bus station, from early afternoon, passengers continuously flocked to the waiting area and boarding gates.

Many people, carrying bulky luggage, hurriedly searched for the right route and time to leave Hanoi on the last working day of the year.

A representative from Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company stated that the stations have developed plans to increase the number of vehicles and add reserve buses to meet the increased travel demand. At the same time, the company is coordinating with functional forces to ensure security and order, manage traffic flow at the station entrances, and minimize congestion during peak hours.
