Diverse supply, meeting consumer demand
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024, the market for consumer goods, especially essential goods, will not have many fluctuations and will be relatively stable.
Previously, units and enterprises trading and distributing goods in the province proactively researched the market, developed production plans, reasonably reserved goods, and implemented measures to ensure goods supply for the 2024 Lunar New Year, avoiding shortages, price hikes or backlogs after Tet. State management agencies in the trade sector have implemented many solutions to maintain market stability, ensure supply and demand balance at the end of the year, during Tet and in case of an epidemic.
Distributors such as Thanh Nghe Tinh Food Joint Stock Company, Nghe An Agricultural Products and Foodstuff Company Limited, Nam Long Trading Company Limited, supermarket systems: Go! Vinh, MM Mega Market, Winmart,... convenience stores such as Winmart+, Bibigreen,... and shopping centers, goods distributors and markets in the province have developed plans to prepare goods for Tet with a total reserve of goods estimated at over 10,050 billion VND, including: Nam Long Trading Joint Stock Company prepares cooking oil for Tet with a total value of about 50 billion; Thanh Nghe Tinh Food Joint Stock Company: rice of about 3.2 billion VND; Go! Prices of most items are relatively stable, some items with high demand on days before Tet, fruits, ornamental plants for Tet... have increased in price by about 5-15% compared to normal days. Basic food groups have not fluctuated much compared to the same period last year.
On February 10, 2024 (the first day of Tet), all production and business establishments, markets, and retail stores in the area will temporarily stop operating. On February 11, 2024 (the second day of Tet), many traditional markets, stores, supermarkets, etc. will reopen, with abundant and full goods, but prices will remain stable and will not increase. On February 13, 2024 (the fourth day of Tet), most businesses will resume operations.
In general, prices of essential goods have not increased much compared to Tet 2023. Some items remain at the same price to serve people's shopping needs. There has been no phenomenon of price fever or sudden price increases.
Price developments of some main commodities
Food group: Retail prices of some rice products increased slightly compared to the same period last year, specifically: The retail prices of delicious rice produced in the province range from 18,000-21,000 VND/kg (in districts and towns) and in Vinh City, the selling prices of Thai rice and jasmine milk rice range from 20,000-23,000 VND/kg, Hanoi sticky rice 27,000-32,000 VND/kg, Thai sticky rice 30,000-35,000 VND/kg... The retail prices of agricultural products increased slightly compared to the same period in 2023.
Fresh food: The prices of livestock and poultry meats basically remained unchanged compared to the same period last year, specifically: beef tenderloin prices ranged from 240,000-270,000 VND/kg, beef shank 260,000-280,000 VND/kg; pork rump prices ranged from 110,000-150,000 VND/kg; live chickens sold in districts and towns in the delta cost about 110,000-130,000 VND/kg; at markets in Vinh city, prices ranged from 130,000-150,000 VND/kg.
Seafood: The supply of seafood is abundant, retail prices remain stable compared to the same period in 2023, specifically: Grade 1 mackerel retail price ranges from 270,000-310,000 VND/kg; Large grass carp, 5kg-7kg/fish, price from 80,000-100,000 VND/kg, medium river shrimp, about 180,000-200,000 VND/kg...
Vegetables, tubers, fruits: Thanks to dry weather and abundant vegetable supply, prices of vegetables and fruits in the province remain stable, with some types slightly decreasing compared to the same period last year, specifically: water spinach 7,000 VND/bunch; mustard greens 10,000 VND/bunch; squash, carrots and cabbage 10,000 VND/kg...
Technology products: Retail prices of beer increased slightly compared to the same period last year, specifically: Hanoi canned beer is priced at about 255,000 VND/carton, Huda canned beer is priced at about 240,000 VND/carton, Heiniken is 450,000 VND/carton. The retail price of sugar increased sharply compared to the same period last year, ranging from 28,000-32,000 VND/kg.
Cooking oil and items such as seasoning powder and salt maintained relatively stable retail sales.
This year's Tet, the types of ornamental plant pots are very diverse and abundant, from small to medium and large with many different prices, the retail prices of these items remain the same as the same period last year, from 220,000-550,000 VND/pot (small for table), to 700,000-900,000 VND/pot to millions of VND. From the afternoon of February 8, 2024 (ie December 29, 2023 lunar calendar) to February 9, 2024 (ie December 30, 2023 lunar calendar), the price of ornamental plants recorded a decrease to from 100,000-350,000 VND/pot (small for table), to 500,000-700,000 VND/pot to millions of VND. Fruit prices have increased by 20-30% compared to the same period last year.
Mr. Cao Minh Tu - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: Today, many supermarkets, convenience stores, traditional markets and grocery stores have started to open more stores, the items for sale are also more diverse. However, consumer demand in the market has not increased much, the items consumed are mainly food, especially vegetables, beef, and seafood.
The supply of food products has basically met the needs of consumers. Prices of goods on the market are stable, not increasing compared to the time before Tet and slightly increasing compared to normal days. In general, the market is moving according to normal rules, there is no phenomenon of shortage of goods, price fever, causing market instability.
