Many free study abroad opportunities in the US, Australia, and the UK for Vietnamese students are now open for applications during the Lunar New Year holiday.

These are all government scholarship programs that cover tuition fees, travel expenses, health insurance fees... and even provide additional living expenses along with many non-financial benefits.

Last weekend, the British Council opened applications for the Women in STEM ( Science , Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Master's Scholarship for women in 2026. This is the sixth year the British Council has offered this scholarship, and this year, students from Vietnam can apply for the British Council Women in STEM scholarship through the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM).

In parallel, the ASEAN-UK SAGE program, which supports the advancement of girls' education , also offers similar scholarships for Vietnamese applicants and is currently accepting applications. The program is co-funded by the British Council and the British Mission to ASEAN. Applicants from Vietnam can apply for the ASEAN-UK Women in STEM scholarship at the University of Stirling. In both programs, each scholarship is worth a minimum of £40,000 (approximately VND 1.4 billion).

The deadline for applying for the two full scholarships mentioned above is April 30th. Both include financial support, tuition fees, living expenses, travel and visa costs, health insurance, and English language support. To apply, candidates must meet several criteria, including: having been accepted into a designated university, holding a bachelor's degree, demonstrating the potential to contribute to Vietnam in the future, returning to their home country for at least two years after graduation, and committing to actively participate in STEM fields.

Applicants can find out more about the two UK study scholarships HERE .

With a common application deadline of April 30th, the Australian Government Scholarship (AAS), the AAS scholarship under the Mekong-Australia Partnership (MAP), and the Australian Maritime Security Scholarship (AMSS) are also accepting applications from Vietnamese students wishing to pursue master's degrees at Australian universities.

All three scholarships are fully funded, including round-trip airfare, an initial settling-in allowance, tuition fees, living expenses, an academic placement program, health insurance, supplementary study, and a field research stipend. Some scholarships may offer additional benefits to applicants. However, while AAS and MAP accept applications from a general audience, AMSS only accepts applications from candidates currently working at selected government agencies in Vietnam.

All three programs recommend that applicants apply to fields of study that are priority for Vietnam or fields designated by the scholarship, and that they align with their work experience and qualifications. Applicants can learn more about the three Australian scholarships HERE .

A few weeks prior, the U.S. diplomatic mission in Vietnam announced that it was accepting applications for the Fulbright Master's Scholarship, the Fulbright Graduate Scholarship (VSR), and the Fulbright Teacher Excellence Scholarship (TEA), with application deadlines ranging from the end of March to mid-May depending on the program. Of these, only the Fulbright Master's Scholarship awards a degree.

All three scholarships are full-value, covering tuition, round-trip airfare to the U.S., a monthly stipend, and health insurance. The Fulbright TEA scholarship also provides additional funding for professional development activities, cultural exploration, and other incidental expenses throughout the program.

The three scholarship programs share some common requirements, such as requiring applicants to be Vietnamese citizens residing in Vietnam and possessing appropriate English language proficiency, in addition to some specific criteria. The U.S. diplomatic mission in Vietnam also noted that all three programs will select applicants based on academic achievement and expertise, without considering factors such as ethnicity, religion, gender, age, geographical location, economic status, or workplace.

Applicants can learn more about 3 scholarships for studying in the US HERE (with the Fulbright Master's scholarship), HERE (VSR), and HERE (Fulbright TEA).
