Currently, many universities have announced their expected enrollment plans for 2026, including adjustments to the admission combination. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) has just announced that 15/30 majors of this school will not be admitted using the C00 combination (Literature, History, Geography), including many "hot" majors such as: Journalism, Oriental Studies, Public Relations, Tourism and Travel Services Management, Psychology...
In addition, this school also does not consider the combinations C03 (Math, Literature, History), C04 (Math, Literature, Geography), X78 (Literature, English, Economic and Legal Education). In general, in most majors, the school uses about 2-5 combinations, in which English or Literature is multiplied by a factor of 2 to comply with the requirement of the Ministry of Education and Training that the general subject must account for at least 50% of the total score.
According to the school's explanation, the removal of the C00 combination for some majors was part of the roadmap and had been proposed since 2025. However, due to the urgent time, this could not be officially implemented at that time.
Removing the C00 combination and adding a Foreign Language subject to the admission combination aims to further strengthen the internationalization of training programs, increase the number of subjects taught in English, and at the same time implement the strategy of making English the second language in schools.
In addition to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Political Officer School also said that it will no longer use the C00 (Literature, History, Geography) and A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry) combinations in the 2026 admissions season. This school will use the following combinations: C01 (Literature, Math, Physics), C03 (Literature, Math, History), C04 (Literature, Math, Geography) and D01 (Literature, Math, English).
Explaining this adjustment, the school said the change is to comply with current admission regulations. According to regulations, the Ministry of Education and Training requires that the subject combination used for admission include at least 3 subjects suitable to the characteristics and requirements of the training program, including Math or Literature with a weighted score of not less than 25%. From 2026, the total number of subjects in the combination must contribute at least 50% of the weighted score.
Therefore, the 4 combinations that the school plans all take Math and Literature - the subjects that 100% of candidates take the graduation exam - as the base and change in the 3rd subject.
Another military school, the Border Guard Academy, also announced an adjustment to the admission combination for the same reason. The school will use 3 combinations including C03 (Literature, Math, History), C04 (Literature, Math, Geography), D01 (Literature, Math, English) for both Border Guard and Law majors.
"This is the optimal solution and is agreed upon by experts," the Border Guard Academy stated.
In 2025, the Border Guard Academy will use 5 combinations for admission including A01, C00, C01, C03, D01. So next year, the Academy will stop considering combinations A01, C00, C01.
University of Technology (Hanoi National University) also plans to remove the combination D01 (Math, Literature, English), B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology), X26 (Math, English, IT) when considering graduation exam scores.
In most majors, the school uses 3 combinations including A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), X06 (Math, Physics, IT). In particular, the two majors of Biotechnology and Agricultural Technology add combination A02 (Math, Physics, Biology). Thus, the combinations that the University of Technology plans to use for admission in 2026 all have two common subjects: Math and Physics.
According to experts, the change in the combination is partly to comply with the admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, and partly to meet the training practices and requirements of "globalization". However, there are also opinions that this is to ensure more fairness in the admission process.
For example, the C00 combination score has tended to be more prominent over the past years, while the admission regulations do not divide the quota according to each combination or method, thereby raising concerns that training programs are "flooded" with candidates with this combination, causing unfairness in the admission process.
