Many major websites in Vietnam are experiencing inaccessibility issues. |
On the evening of November 18th (Vietnam time), a technical issue with Cloudflare caused numerous online services, both international and domestic, to simultaneously cease operation. Among them, many websites with high traffic in Vietnam, such as voz, tinhte, taimienphi.vn, thuvienphapluat.vn, etc., were inaccessible, disrupting user access.
Even the fifth most-visited website in Vietnam, which was a site providing pirated comics, was down in the recent incident. Currently, these sites are still unable to resume operation.
Many users in Vietnam quickly became confused when they saw a sudden drop in internet speed or websites displaying generic error messages such as " internal server error on Cloudflare network".

A number of popular websites in Vietnam were frozen due to a Cloudflare error. |
Many international services popular with Vietnamese users, such as ChatGPT and Canva, were completely frozen for hours. The message "Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to continue," which was an error message on OpenAI's application, was searched for by many people.
The incident sparked a wave of comments on social media platforms. Many users expressed frustration at the sudden "freezing" of their work and entertainment tools. However, the online community's reaction quickly shifted to discussing the root cause.
The reason may stem from the fact that many news websites, online portals, and community forums frequently use Cloudflare's services to optimize loading speeds and protect against cyberattacks. This partly exposes the complex dependence of the Internet infrastructure on core service providers, which operate silently but hold the lifeblood of the online network.
When Cloudflare's "shield" experiences problems, these websites are immediately exposed to vulnerabilities and become inactive. This prevents users from accessing content, while the entire security layer is temporarily disabled, leaving websites vulnerable to security risks during the service outage.
Cloudflare, a company specializing in content delivery networks (CDNs) and tools to protect websites from DDoS attacks, quickly posted a statement confirming the incident. The severity of this technical error was evident when even the Down Detector incident monitoring website was affected.
