Currently, the demand for foreign labor from Korea, Japan and Taiwan (China) continues to increase. This is a favorable condition as well as a premise for Vietnam to implement programs to send workers to work abroad under contracts in 2024 and the following years.

In 2024, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs aims to send 125,000 workers to work abroad under contracts, focusing on a number of key, traditional markets such as Japan, Taiwan (China) and South Korea.

Mr. Nguyen Nhu Tuan, Deputy Head of the Information and Propaganda Department, Department of Overseas Labor Management, Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said: "In 2024, our plan is to send 125,000 workers to work abroad under contracts. In which, we still focus on 3 key and traditional markets, which are: Japan is expected to send 63,000 workers; followed by Taiwan (China) with about 48,000 workers and Korea with 8,500 workers in 2024. In addition, we also prioritize sending workers to some potential markets in safe, suitable and high-income industries for workers".
To achieve the set goals, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs continues to promote and improve the quality of sending Vietnamese workers to work abroad under contracts; giving priority to sending workers in disadvantaged areas and social policy beneficiaries to work in markets. At the same time, stabilizing and maintaining existing markets, developing and expanding high-income markets, suitable to the qualifications and skills of Vietnamese workers.
Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan emphasized: "Sending workers to work abroad is not only purely to solve employment and income for workers, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, but this is one of the directions for training and developing human resources for the country in the future. That is the biggest goal. Therefore, we continue to promote more clearly the rights, responsibilities and obligations of workers as well as of state management agencies".
In 2023, Vietnam sent more than 159,000 workers to work abroad under contracts, reaching 133.3% of the annual plan. This is the highest number of workers working abroad in more than 10 years. Some of the key and traditional markets receiving Vietnamese workers are: Japan with more than 80,000 workers; Taiwan (China) with more than 58,000 workers and South Korea with more than 11,000 workers.
