The sport of equestrian sport has been included in the official Olympic competition system since 1912. With the Asiad, equestrian sport was included in the competition system since 1982. In Southeast Asia, this sport was first included in the competition at the 1983 SEA Games. Currently, the Asian Equestrian Federation has more than 35 member countries. Of which, Southeast Asia has 8/11 countries (except Vietnam, Laos, East Timor) participating. At the 31st SEA Games in 2022 held in Vietnam, equestrian sport is expected to be held but the conditions are not met, so this sport has not been included in the competition program, which can be considered a big disadvantage for Vietnamese equestrian sport.
