Concerts in the Spratly Islands

In the vast ocean of Truong Sa, music becomes a bridge connecting the mainland with the distant islands, uniting the hearts of people from all over the country and the hearts of soldiers. Especially for artists, particularly young artists, coming to Truong Sa means finding a sacred and meaningful source of inspiration for their songs.

Memorable performances

At exactly 7 PM on April 29th, the artistic performance by artists from Task Force No. 12 on Truong Sa Lon Island was held right at the sovereignty marker. The "concert," as the soldiers jokingly called it, wasn't just for artists from the mainland; it also included performances by soldiers, island residents, and especially the participation of young "artists" who had been practicing for many days beforehand.

On this special stage, singer Dong Trieu performed for the first time the song "Singing About the Soldiers of Truong Sa Island," which he wrote with emotion during his visit to Truong Sa in 2024. He shared: "I am truly moved that the song was composed in Truong Sa, and the first time I performed it was also in Truong Sa, dedicated to the soldiers and people who are protecting our homeland's seas and islands day and night. Singing right at the sovereignty marker is incredibly meaningful and sacred."

The evening continued with MC and singer Quynh Hoa performing the song "Vietnamese Ao Dai" along with a fashion show of Ao Dai designed by Viet Hung; Thien Phu with the song "Surfing Out to Sea" ; Yen Nhien with "Song of Unity "; and the choir " A Thousand Dreams of Vietnam"…

Previously, other makeshift concerts had also taken place on the islands of Da Lon B, Sinh Ton, Nui Le C, Phan Vinh A, Da Tay A… leaving memorable moments for soldiers and artists. In some places, there were no stage lights, no modern sound systems… only soldiers and artists singing together, yet still powerful enough to connect hearts and minds.

On Phan Vinh A Island, at the request of many young soldiers, two young singers, Tu Tri and Trung Hau, performed the Vong Co song " Cho Moi" (composed by Trong Nguyen). Surprisingly, upon seeing that there was no musical accompaniment, Lieutenant General Pham Van Dy, former Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Military Region 7, and Head of the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund delegation, played the guitar for the two artists. Hundreds of soldiers applauded loudly at this unexpected and delightful collaboration.

Singer Trung Hau (20 years old, a student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture) said with tears in his eyes: "Standing amidst the vast sea and sky of our homeland, singing songs about our country and the soldiers who are guarding our seas day and night, I feel incredibly proud. Every glance, every smile, every round of applause from the soldiers makes me understand that music is about sharing, a great source of spiritual encouragement. This is the most special concert for me."

Inspiring creative inspiration

Amidst the vibrant music market with its multi-million dollar investment races, where most young artists chase after popular tastes, there are still many artists who dedicate their time, effort, and passion to creating projects and songs about their homeland, especially about Truong Sa.

Notable examples include singer Nguyen Phi Hung with a series of songs such as "Sending a Message to the Soldiers of Truong Sa Island," "A Message to Truong Sa," "Truong Sa on the Day of Return," "The Call of the Homeland, " etc. Singer Duyen Quynh has "The National Flag on a Distant Island ," Nguyen Van Chung collaborated with Duyen Quynh to release "Truong Sa Song ." Jee Tran has "Echoes of the East Sea ." Singer Dong Trieu has "Singing About You, the Soldier of Truong Sa Island," "Coming to a Distant Island with KN-290," "Song of Ship 632," "Oh, Offshore Platform," etc.

Composer Tran Xuan Mai Tram, who has visited Truong Sa four times, has a collection of works including: Green Truong Sa, Truong Sa Sends Love, Spring on the Islands, Truong Sa: Emotions and Belief, Like a Lighthouse, Legend of the Ho Chi Minh Trail on the Sea, Sacred Vietnam, Border and Islands in My Heart, KN-290: My Beloved Home, Shining Light on the Southwestern Sea and Sky … and is continuing this legacy with Truong Tran Anh Duy's recently released song "Nguyen ". Singer Miha is about to release the song " The Image of the Homeland Transforms into Him".

Having just returned from Truong Sa in late April, singer Thien Phu is finalizing the production of three music videos: "That Place Is Truong Sa," "The Vitality of Truong Sa," and "The Song from a Distant Island "... "Returning from Truong Sa, from the DK1 platform, I still have those indescribable emotions. When I sang the melodies about the sea and islands of my homeland, I sang with all my heart," singer Thien Phu shared.

For artists and writers, Truong Sa is a powerful source of emotion and great inspiration for their creative work. For musician Tran Xuan Mai Tram, visiting the remote islands, seeing her homeland's majestic beauty, witnessing the red flag with a yellow star fluttering in the vast sea and sky of the Fatherland, and meeting the brave yet humble soldiers on the border islands... all these experiences deepened her love for her country. And from that, many works on the theme of Truong Sa and the islands were born, reflecting a stream of emotion and love for the Fatherland.

Amidst the vast and turbulent seas, Truong Sa is not only a place guarding the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland but has also become a special source of emotion for artists.

Sea voyages to remote islands allowed the artist to experience the simple yet resilient beauty of the soldiers and civilians there. From this experience, each song written was no longer merely a melody, but became the voice of love for the homeland. And when those lyrics resonate, no matter where, they quietly spread feelings of pride, love, and gratitude in the hearts of everyone.
