In 2025, Hanoi will put into operation many important transportation projects. These projects will contribute to improving traffic congestion in some areas, completing the urban transportation network, and increasing connectivity between areas within and outside the city.

Among the completed projects, the extended Le Quang Dao road officially opened to traffic on April 19, 2025. The road is 2.67 km long, starting from the Thang Long Boulevard intersection and ending at the intersection with Le Trong Tan road in Duong Noi urban area.

The project commenced in February 2023 with a total investment of nearly 706 billion VND. The road is being built to urban road standards, with a cross-section of 30 to 40 meters, including 6 lanes for cars.

The opening of the extended Le Quang Dao road creates an additional connecting axis between the Nam Tu Liem and Ha Dong areas, while also sharing traffic volume with frequently overloaded routes such as To Huu, Sa Doi, and Road 70. The road also connects many large urban areas in western Hanoi, contributing to shorter travel times and more convenient daily life and transportation for residents.

At the southern gateway to Hanoi, the project to renovate and expand National Highway 1A from Van Dien to Ngoc Hoi has also been opened to traffic after more than 15 years of implementation.

The project was approved in 2010 with a total investment of nearly 900 billion VND, a length of approximately 3.8km, passing through the communes of Tu Hiep, Ngu Hiep, Ngoc Hoi and Lien Ninh (formerly Thanh Tri district).

Upon completion, the Van Dien - Ngoc Hoi section of National Highway 1A was expanded to 8 lanes, with a cross-section of nearly 40 meters. This is a crucial transportation artery connecting Hanoi with southern provinces, frequently experiencing significant pressure from intercity buses and heavy trucks.

On February 10, 2026 (23rd day of the 12th lunar month), Hanoi City held a technical opening ceremony for the Kim Dong - Giai Phong underpass , an important transportation project on the Ring Road 2.5.

The project commenced in October 2022, with a total investment of 778 billion VND, and is managed by the Hanoi City Transport Construction Investment Project Management Board.

The Kim Dong - Giai Phong underpass has 4 lanes and a total length of 460m, including a 140m enclosed tunnel section and a 320m open tunnel section. One end of the tunnel connects to Kim Dong Street, while the other connects to the Ring Road 2.5 near Dam Hong, adjacent to Dinh Cong Street, contributing to the reorganization of traffic in the southern part of the city and reducing conflicts at the Giai Phong intersection.

At the same time, the Ring Road 2.5 project, specifically the Dam Hong - National Highway 1A section , was also opened for technical traffic after a long period of delays. The 1.6km project was invested under a Build-Transfer (BT) contract with a total investment of approximately 1,317 billion VND. Construction began in 2014, but the project was temporarily suspended from 2020 due to difficulties in land clearance and contract procedures.

After being restarted at the end of May 2025, the main components of the project are now basically complete. The opening of this section to traffic helps to connect seamlessly with the Kim Dong - Giai Phong underpass, contributing to the completion of the Southern Hanoi Ring Road 2.5.

Also on February 10, 2026, Hanoi organized temporary traffic and put into operation nearly 7km of the Southern arterial road, from Km18+560 to Km26+000, passing through the communes of Phuong Duc, Van Dinh and surrounding areas.

Putting this section of the route into operation will shorten travel distances, reduce pressure on existing roads, and facilitate travel and trade for the people.

The Ring Road 1 project, specifically the Hoang Cau - Voi Phuc section , spans over 2.2km with a 50m wide cross-section and has a total investment exceeding 7,200 billion VND. It plays a crucial role in the urban core transportation network. Approved in 2017 and initially scheduled for completion in 2020, the project suffered significant delays due to land clearance issues. However, since the end of 2025, under the decisive leadership of Hanoi Party Secretary Nguyen Duy Ngoc, these difficulties have been gradually resolved, accelerating the project's progress. Land clearance is expected to be completed before December 15, 2025, and the road will be technically opened to traffic on January 14, 2026.

Ring Road 1 is the "backbone" of Hanoi's inner city, spanning approximately 31.5 km², with a high population density and a very large volume of traffic every day. The completion of the Hoang Cau - Voi Phuc section, the final segment of the project, is crucial in completing the entire Ring Road 1.

Residents expect that once the road is completed and fully operational, traffic congestion will gradually improve, the urban landscape will become increasingly modern and attractive, thereby contributing to improving the quality of life and promoting socio -economic development of the capital city.
