Minister Hoang Nhuan Thu said that China currently puts environmental protection as its top priority with the viewpoint of General Secretary Xi Jinping: "River and water are mountains of gold and silver."
Since 2012, China has promoted a balance between economic growth and environmental protection, considering the environment as a driving force for production. China's approach is to thoroughly revise the 2015 Environmental Protection Law and enhance the responsibility of Party committees, strictly punishing leaders who violate or fail to achieve the goals of improving and protecting the environment. Regulations related to water, air, land and waste quality management have also been introduced.
Mr. Hoang Nhuan Thu also said that solutions related to factory relocation, residential areas, increasing emission standards, and eliminating coal fuel are being strongly implemented. In addition, China is also stepping up investment in science and technology to improve environmental quality and is ready to invite businesses to participate in this process.

From a local perspective, the working group from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment had a very open and sincere exchange with Beijing Mayor Yin Yong about experiences in improving air quality in this city of more than 20 million people.
Over the past 10 years, Beijing has created environmental miracles, air pollution has been reduced to the lowest level, water quality has been improved, and the coverage rate and number of parks and trees in the Chinese capital have been significantly increased.
To achieve that result, Mayor Yin Yong said Beijing has adopted five basic solutions. One is to relocate high-emission factories and agencies to neighboring localities or suburbs. The second is to raise emission standards and eliminate polluting fuels.
Third is inter-regional management with neighboring provinces and cities. Fourth is preventing pollution at the source. And finally, strengthening supervision and handling of violations.
Minister Tran Duc Thang sincerely thanked Mayor An Dung for his invaluable experiences that Vietnam can learn from. Especially the story about the relationship between economic development and environmental protection.
