Magnolia is a woody plant, consisting of a main trunk and many smaller branches with flower buds. Before flowering, the tree has bare branches like dry firewood. When it blooms, it produces large flowers with thick petals.

Magnolia flowers typically come in two varieties: white with a hint of pinkish-purple, and completely pinkish-purple.

This year, Mr. Vo Xuan Truong (born in 1991, residing in Thanh Vinh ward, Nghe An province) imported more than 70 magnolia branches from China to sell during Tet (Lunar New Year). “This is the second year I’ve brought magnolias to sell for Tet. A single magnolia branch sells for between 2.5 million and 10 million VND, depending on its size. Even though I’ve only been selling them for a few days, I’ve already sold more than half of the magnolias,” Mr. Truong shared.

According to Mr. Truong, magnolia trees should be placed in a sunny location, don't need much watering, and they will bloom profusely right around Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year). From the time the magnolia buds appear until they bloom takes about a month. Once the flowers have bloomed, they are very long-lasting and can be enjoyed until the 15th day of the first lunar month.

Besides magnolias, willow trees are also being imported and sold by many people, and they quickly sell out. Ms. Tra Giang, the owner of a flower stall in Thanh Vinh ward, said that willow trees are selling so well this year that even with continuous imports, there's still not enough to meet demand. However, she is still limiting her imports due to concerns about potential changes in consumer demand closer to Tet (Lunar New Year).

According to vendors, the number of customers looking to buy willow branches has increased significantly this year compared to previous years. At times, the stock was almost sold out as soon as it was displayed, requiring constant restocking. Willow branches, available in many beautiful colors such as red, yellow, and orange, are priced at 70,000 VND per bundle.

“Every year I buy a few bunches of willow branches to decorate my living room and office desk during Tet (Lunar New Year). Willow branches meet both requirements: as long as the water is changed regularly, the branches can stay fresh for many days, even blooming gradually from buds, creating a feeling of good fortune at the beginning of the year,” shared Mr. Nguyen Van Huan (residing in Thanh Vinh ward, Nghe An province).

In addition, apricot blossoms are also a popular item during the Lunar New Year season.

Snowdrop flowers attract buyers with their pristine beauty; the tiny petals, covered in white like snow, evoke a feeling of lightness and elegance. Snowdrop flowers are priced at 120,000 - 180,000 VND per bunch.
