Strong sports of the Vietnamese delegation at SEA Games 33

VHO - Strong sports such as athletics, swimming, wrestling, shooting... are expected to continue to contribute greatly to the overall achievements of Vietnamese sports at the 33rd SEA Games.

Athletics aims for 12-14 gold medals at SEA Games 33

The Vietnamese Sports Delegation attending the 33rd SEA Games has 1,165 members, including 841 athletes, competing in 47 sports and sub-sports in the official competition program announced by host country Thailand.

The team's goal is to maintain its position in the top 3 countries and strive to win 90-110 gold medals.

Key sports include athletics, swimming, rowing, canoeing, wrestling, shooting, archery and martial arts...

Of which, four main events including athletics, swimming, shooting and wrestling are expected to bring home at least 32 gold medals, equivalent to about 1/3 of the whole team's target.

Athletics is still the "locomotive" with the target of 12-14 gold medals, based on the stable performance of the women's 400m team, record holder Nguyen Thi Oanh and many events with the potential to compete for gold medals.

Shooting returns after a hiatus from the SEA Games, with hopes placed on young athletes like Trinh Thu Vinh, Pham Quang Huy, Le Thi Mong Tuyen, and the experience of flying saucer and rapid-fire pistol shooters.

Swimming continues to be one of Vietnam's key sports at the 33rd SEA Games.

In swimming, the trio Tran Hung Nguyen - Pham Thanh Bao - Nguyen Huy Hoang continue to be the faces with great expectations, with the goal of winning at least 7 gold medals.

The wrestling team, despite having its competition content cut, is still confident of aiming for 6 gold medals. The rowing and canoeing teams are aiming to bring home 8 more gold medals.

Other martial arts and Olympic sports such as karate, taekwondo, judo, kick-boxing, gymnastics or weightlifting... all set a target of 2-4 gold medals per event, although the level of competition is predicted to be very fierce.

A notable point of this year's delegation is the presence of nearly 300 young athletes aged 18-23. This is a generation with high expectations in the strategy of rejuvenating the force and raising the level of the country's sports.

SEA Games 33 is considered an important "test" to help them gain experience before aiming for bigger arenas such as ASIAD and Olympics.
