The boat carrying 64 people landed at Las Burras beach on the island of Gran Canaria, according to authorities. Eleven migrants were taken to hospital, four of whom were in critical condition and were airlifted by helicopter.

The number of migrants arriving by sea in the Canary Islands increased by 160% from January to July 15 compared to the previous year, reaching nearly 20,000, according to Spain's Interior Ministry . The total number of people arriving by sea in Spain, including by land, increased by 88% to about 25,300.
After landing on the beach, many migrants lay on the sand, looking weak and exhausted. One person lay motionless, while several others had difficulty walking.
The route from Africa to the Canary Islands is the fastest growing migration route in Europe, with illegal crossings up 303% from January to May compared to the previous year, according to the latest data from the European border control agency Frontex.
Another boat carrying 145 migrants was rescued near Gran Canaria on Friday, authorities said.
