Amidst the bustling life of the capital city, many young people have chosen a different path, staying in their villages and elevating local specialties into opportunities for wealth creation.

From seemingly familiar products, they create new business models, generate sustainable income, and spread the spirit of "Start-up Tet," beginning the new year with the aspiration to break through right in the land where they were born.

Leverage local advantages.

In the semi-mountainous region of Ba Vi commune ( Hanoi ), where bamboo, cassava, and corn were once considered just familiar crops, young man Le Xuan Thanh saw a "gold mine" in these very simple things. In the local youth movement for self-reliance and entrepreneurship, his model of raising and supplying commercial bamboo rats has become a shining example.

What sets Thanh apart is his mindset of leveraging local resources. According to the young man, raising bamboo rats is not difficult if you know how to exploit readily available natural food sources. Bamboo, reeds, cassava stalks, corn... are all found around his garden and on his farm. Thanks to this, Thanh is almost entirely independent of industrial feed, minimizing input costs and maximizing his profits.

Ba Vì, with its cool climate and spacious environment, is also very suitable for the habits of the bamboo rat – they prefer cleanliness and are less prone to disease if the enclosures are hygienic. Recognizing this potential, Thanh boldly invested in a systematic approach, building a care process from breeding selection to disease prevention.

Currently, his farm focuses on two main breeds: the spotted bamboo rat - easy to raise, with good disease resistance, and the peach-cheeked bamboo rat - large in size, high in productivity, and with outstanding economic value.

Not only does he provide commercial meat to the market with a stable output, but he has also become a trusted source of high-quality breeding stock for farmers and many young people who want to start their own businesses.

What's most valuable is his willingness to share. Thanh doesn't keep his secrets to himself. The young man provides technical support from building cages and breeding to caring for each stage of the animals; he commits to supplying healthy breeding stock; and he accompanies them in advising on market access and disease control. "Success is only truly meaningful when we move forward together," Thanh shared.

In the atmosphere of the traditional Lunar New Year, when many young people are still wondering about their future, Thanh's model serves as an inspiration: Homeland is not only a place to return to for family reunions, but also a place to begin great journeys.

Bringing green tea to the digital platform.

While Le Xuan Thanh chose specialty agricultural products as his direction, Pham Huong Giang, an active youth union member in Dong Da ward (Hanoi), combined traditional products with digital technology to create the "Pham Gia Tra" brand.

For a long time, Giang has had a special love for Tan Cuong tea, a specialty of Thai Nguyen province. This product is famous far and wide for its very clear, light yellowish-green tea liquor, like the color of young rice grains, and its rich consistency. The tea has a pleasant, harmonious, and slightly astringent-sweet taste with a lingering aftertaste, almost without any bitterness. The tea has a sweet, pleasant aroma.

Driven by a desire to create safe and healthy green tea, Giang researched and developed many unique product lines. Instead of relying entirely on traditional stores, the young woman leveraged social media and live streaming to sell products and interact directly with customers. Each live stream was not just about selling products, but also about sharing the story of the tea's origins, production process, and health benefits.

Thanks to her quick thinking, Giang has built a stable customer base, creating jobs for many young people with an average income of about 8 million VND per month. For this young woman, Tet is not only a peak sales season, but also an opportunity to show appreciation to customers and introduce tea gift sets imbued with the spirit of spring.

Giang shared her desire to expand the distribution network and support more young people in online business. In the context of strong digital transformation, Giang's story shows that local specialties, when told in a modern language, can absolutely reach a vast market.

Elevating the status of the lotus leaf in our homeland.

From a small lotus pond in Van Dinh commune, Le Thi Thu has written an inspiring entrepreneurial story. Before that, the young woman was a small-scale clothing vendor, a stable job, but one that didn't bring her true passion. The turning point came when Thu helped her family sell dried lotus leaves and realized the valuable medicinal properties of this seemingly wasted leaf.

Lotus leaves can cool the body, help lower blood fat, and reduce liver enzymes… So Thu experimented with making lotus leaf tea, drying and packaging it manually. Unexpectedly, the product was warmly received. Demand increased, so she discussed with her family renting abandoned land to expand the area for growing lotus.

The early days of reclaiming the land were arduous; weeds grew rampant, and the land had been barren for years. It took a whole month to clear it before the first lotus crop could be planted. Thu chose a native lotus variety with large leaves and strong stems. When summer arrived, the lotus flowers bloomed profusely, the leaves covered the yard, and the air was filled with a fragrant aroma.

Thu meticulously researched the tea-making process: the lotus leaves are tender, thick, and green, harvested before 10 am; washed, cut into strips, dried, and sealed to prevent mold. Each season, she harvests 2-3 tons of dried lotus leaf tea. With a selling price of approximately 90,000 VND/kg, her revenue reaches 90-100 million VND per year.

Not content with small-scale production, Thu gradually built the Bao Minh Production, Business and Service Cooperative, creating a stable market and contributing to affirming the new value of the lotus plant from her hometown. During Tet (Lunar New Year), boxes of lotus tea in tea bags become a simple yet sophisticated gift, bringing the flavor of the countryside into every urban home.

These young people not only possess a daring and innovative spirit, but also a desire to spread their influence. They don't leave their homeland to seek opportunities far away, but instead look deeply into the land they are standing on to find solutions.

Lunar New Year is traditionally a time of new beginnings. In the midst of family reunions, stories about the Ba Vi bamboo rat, online green tea, or Van Dinh lotus leaves are not just economic models. They demonstrate that local specialties, if properly exploited, combined with creativity and technology, can become the key to unlocking the future.

"Startup Tet" is therefore not just a slogan, but a spirit of action. When young people dare to start, dare to return, and dare to work together, spring is not only on the peach blossoms, but also blossoms in every idea, every economic model that is growing day by day in Hanoi.
