The 47-year-old Dutch coach reached the milestone of 50 Premier League matches , just as Liverpool fell into their worst period in many years. The 0-3 loss to Nottingham Forest made the pressure on Arne Slot even heavier.
In just two months, Slot has gone from being one of the Premier League’s most “safe” managers to facing the sack. This is evident in the last seven games: from being praised after his first 43 games, he has fallen into a situation where he has lost six of his next seven, completely destroying his previous form.
However, considering all 50 matches that Slot led Liverpool, it is understandable why the story of his dismissal is still controversial.
Statistics show that defeat to Nottingham Forest was only Slot's 10th Premier League defeat as Liverpool manager, with six of those coming in the first 12 games of the season.
Importantly, Slot still has a much higher win count than his losses. Statistician Ged Rea says Slot is now Liverpool's most successful manager after 50 Premier League games, with 31 wins.
That's one more than the legendary Kenny Dalglish. Behind him are Bill Shankly (27 wins) and Jurgen Klopp (26 wins). This is clearly not a bad record.
In terms of attack, Liverpool have scored a total of 101 goals in 50 games, an average of just over two per game. However, their defence has been a concern, conceding 61 goals under Slot, especially in the form slump. But if you look at the hypothetical cumulative standings, they still lead.
