Lessons that nourish the soul

At preschool age, each child’s emotion is the first piece that forms their personality. Knowing how to be happy, sad, loving, sharing… That is the result of a process of being cared for and raised properly. This is also the reason why for many years, Phu Rieng Kindergarten (Phu Rieng Commune, Dong Nai Province) has regularly organized emotional education classes and has become a bright spot in the province’s education sector.

Space of emotions

The learning space is arranged with many vivid miniatures, teaching aids, and illustrations are arranged harmoniously, creating a colorful world exclusively for children... That is the stage for the emotional education lesson that the teachers in class 2 meticulously prepared. The lesson begins with the familiar melody of the song Mother's Diary along with the teacher's gentle dance movements, opening the first emotional door for the children. From that initial emotion, the teachers continue to lead the children on a journey of emotional discovery through the fairy tale Three Girls. Without one-way lectures or imposition, the teacher lets the children listen, feel, and share their thoughts. The climaxes are stopped at the right time to observe the reactions on each child's face: some children frown in anger, some are moved by maternal love, and some children cheer when the character is happy. Along with that, the teacher also assigned roles for the children to transform into characters in the story, helping them understand the message in the most natural way. At the end of the story, little Tran Y Nhi emotionally said: Through the story, I understand that my mother sacrificed a lot to raise her children. And my mother too, I will be good and not make my mother sad.

With efforts over the years, Phu Rieng Kindergarten has achieved many proud achievements: The school achieved national standard school level 2 in 2023; is a typical example of patriotic emulation of Dong Nai province in the period 2020-2025; The Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee commended in the Movement to Study and Follow Ho Chi Minh's Thought, Morality and Style.

Not only stopping at fairy tales, Phu Rieng Kindergarten also built many outdoor scenes to expand children's experiences. A space simulating the Northwest countryside was built with stilt houses, rice fields, streams... making children excited. Through the scenes, children learned more about love for their homeland, empathy with friends in the highlands and pride in national identity.

Little Le Ho Minh Ngoc excitedly expressed: “I see rice fields, I see stilt houses. I love my homeland very much.”

For an emotional education lesson to be successful, the role of the teacher is especially important. They are not only the storyteller but also the “coordinator” of emotions, choosing the right stopping point, and gently analyzing to stimulate thinking in children.

Ms. Bui Thi Hieu, a teacher of Kindergarten 2, said: “At preschool age, children learn very well. When given the opportunity, they express a wide range of emotions. After class, when they come home, they know how to express themselves to their mothers, know how to hug their mothers, know how to help their parents. That makes us very happy.”

Bright spot in the system

Over the years, Phu Rieng Kindergarten has been evaluated as a unit with many innovations in education, a model school for organizing annual seminars. From organizing the learning environment to building stories, games, experiential activities, etc., all are invested in a systematic way.

Together with members of Emulation Cluster No. 12, coming to Phu Rieng Kindergarten to participate and experience the topic of emotional education for preschool children, Ms. Tang Thi Lan, Preschool Education Department, Department of Education and Training of Dong Nai province commented: Through the topic, the children had a very impressive emotional experience. That proves that the teachers at the school have been well prepared and have many good skills to carry out this topic. Hopefully, the school will always maintain its performance, continue to be a bright spot for schools in the cluster to learn together and carry out this topic well.

Together with Emulation Cluster No. 12, Ms. Huynh Thi Man, Principal of Vanh Khuyen Kindergarten, Long Ha Commune shared: “The school provides a very creative learning space, helping us learn more experiences. I also take notes on how to prepare teaching materials here so that when I return to my school, I can apply it in emotional education for children at school.”

Ms. Vu Ngoc Anh, the school's principal, affirmed: "When children have a solid emotional foundation, they know how to care, share, and handle situations well. That is the foundation for comprehensive personality development. The school always integrates emotional education lessons into the children's program."

At preschool age, children do not yet know how to fully express their emotions. Through familiar stories, facial expressions, voices and everyday situations skillfully incorporated into lessons by teachers, children gradually learn to recognize their own emotions and those of others. These gentle lessons are contributing to the formation of seeds of kindness in children's souls. When children know how to love, sympathize, and appreciate the simple things around them, that is also the foundation for creating a compassionate, confident and happy generation in the future.
