The U.23 team that Vietnamese football fans remember and are most impressed with is the team that won the runner-up position at the U.23 Asian Cup in Changzhou (China) in 2018.

When the reign of coach Park Hang-seo ended, the talented U.23 players Van Hau, Quang Hai, Xuan Truong, Cong Phuong... played for the Vietnamese national team, and the U.23 Vietnamese national team began a cycle of decline. When "White Witch" Troussier replaced coach Park Hang-seo, it was a period of consecutive failures for Vietnamese youth football. Because "there was no flour to make glue", coach Troussier had to leave early. After a period of peak development, Vietnamese youth football declined, because many clubs were affected economically , so they no longer invested in youth training like before. For example, the prestigious HAGL academy also had to end its relationship with foreign partners, and did not have enough resources to recruit widely, so the following generations of players were not as good as the generation of Cong Phuong, Tuan Anh, Xuan Truong of the first class of HAGL - Arsenal - JMG football academy.

7 years later, also in China, a new generation of U.23 players sowed faith and hope in football fans across the country. U.23 Vietnam started the CFA Team China Panda Cup 2025 with a beautiful victory over host U.23 China. The Vietnamese players fought one-on-one, not afraid to collide with the tall players on the Chinese side. At the end of the match, the U.23 Vietnam team, led by acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh, with great physical strength, pressed their opponents to win 1-0 with a goal by Minh Phuc.

U.23 Vietnam at this time not only has good technique, tactical acumen but also has a tall and big body. Most of the players have beautiful bodies and good physical strength. Many players are over 1.8 m tall, such as Trung Kien (1.91 m), Nguyen Tan (1.8 m), Van Binh (1.83 m), Van Ha (1.84 m), Ly Duc (1.82 m), Hieu Minh (1.84 m), Van Truong (1.82 m), Le Viktor (1.8 m)...

In competitive sports like football, physique and physical strength are considered an advantage. Thanks to good physique, we can expect this generation of players to be able to go to the big sea to compete with strong football teams of the continent.

In the near future, U.23 Vietnam still has two important matches with strong opponents, U.23 Uzbekistan (on November 15) and U.23 Korea (on November 18) at Panda Cup 2025. This is a particularly important test for fans to continue to put their trust in this generation of players. After returning from Panda Cup 2025, Bui Vi Hao and his teammates will enter the gold-hunting campaign at SEA Games 33 in Thailand. With a team that is maturing and has quality expertise, physique, and physical strength, we are not afraid of teams that are focusing on naturalized players such as Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia or even host Thailand.
