Hoang Minh Khang (2014), is currently a 5th grader at Hoa Cu Primary and Secondary School, Lang Son Province. His father passed away in 2024 due to a traffic accident. Since then, Minh Khang has lived with his grandmother, mother and siblings: Hoang Dieu Linh (2015), in 3rd grade, Hoang Ngoc Chi (2018), in 1st grade and Hoang Nhat Yen (2022).
Minh Khang's mother, Nguyen Thi Phuong (born in 1992), is currently mentally unstable and unable to work, so she just stays at home and has no source of income. Previously, her father was the main breadwinner, working as a construction worker to support the whole family. However, after he passed away in a traffic accident, the family fell into a deadlock, with no source of income. Meanwhile, with a large family, all the burden of living falls on the shoulders of her grandmother, Vy Thuy Hoa (born in 1957). At nearly 70 years old and in poor health, Mrs. Hoa still tries to take care of the whole family amidst many difficulties.
Minh Khang’s family currently has 2 sao of land growing plums and corn, but due to the dry climate and lack of irrigation water, the plants are growing poorly. Last season, the income was not even enough to pay for fertilizer, let alone cover daily living expenses.
The family lives in an unfinished house built in 2022, with no doors, no toilets or showers. Every time they need to use the toilet, they have to go up the hill, which is very inconvenient and unsafe. The family does not have clean water, so every day, Ms. Hoa has to walk to the field 3km away from home to carry cans of water for the whole family to use.
Since his father passed away, Minh Khang and his two younger siblings, Dieu Linh and Ngoc Chi, have been supported by the school with 900,000 VND/child each year. However, life is still extremely poor. The family's daily meals are mainly vegetables, with only occasional meat. Sometimes, when there is no money left, the whole family has to eat rice with soy sauce. Due to a lack of nutrition, all four siblings are malnourished and much smaller than their age.
Although still young, Minh Khang is very understanding. He helps his grandmother take care of the corn and massages her hands and feet when she is tired. The road to school is steep and difficult to walk, but Khang still cycles 30 minutes to class every day and has never missed a class. For him, going to school is the only chance to earn money to take care of his grandmother, take care of his mother, and protect his siblings from the hardships his family is facing.
At the studio, MC Duong Hong Phuc choked up when he saw Minh Khang's small stature. Even though he was 11 years old, he still didn't look much older than his younger siblings. The contrasting image of the boy was his nearly 70-year-old, skinny, hard-working grandmother, who still carried the whole family every day, walking kilometers by herself to carry water for daily use, making the male MC unable to hide his sorrow.
Actress Thu Quynh emotionally shared: As a mother of two young children, she always tries to take good care of her children, so she sympathizes even more with the situation of Minh Khang's four brothers. "My eldest child is 10 years old this year, the same age as Khang, but his figure is so small that the more I look at him, the more heartbroken I feel ," the actress choked up.
Singer JayKii could not hide his emotions and burst into tears on stage when he saw the plight of Minh Khang and other children. He shared that there were times when he felt life was too difficult, wondering why all the bad things kept happening to him. However, when he listened to the stories of the children who were deprived in every way, he realized that he was still very lucky.
The male singer expressed his deep admiration for Mrs. Hoa's silent sacrifice, even though she is nearly 70 years old, she still supports her family every day. "I cannot believe that there are still families living in such difficult circumstances. Mrs. Hoa is a great woman, who has lived her whole life for her children and grandchildren ," JayKii choked up.
In addition to sharing and encouraging the characters, actress Thu Quynh and singer JayKii also contributed to the challenges, helping the children bring home valuable prizes from Hoa Sen Group . Accordingly, Hoang Minh Khang's family came in third place, receiving a prize of 18 million VND. Tran Thu Ha's family came in second place, receiving a prize of 23 million VND. Hoang Ngoc Mai's family came in first place, completing the special challenge and bringing home 60 million VND.
Feeling sorry for the difficult lives in the program, the artists gave the children special gifts. In addition, singer Duc Phuc continued to accompany the program by giving each family 10 million VND. Actress Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, although not participating in the recording, decided to give 2 girls Tran Thu Ha and Hoang Ngoc Mai, each 20 million VND. Donors and viewers watching the program live also joined hands to support more than 178 million VND for the children in this episode.
Thus, in episode 140 of the program Vietnamese Family Home , the total amount of support given to families was up to nearly 350 million VND, of which 101 million VND was a bonus from Hoa Sen Group.
The program Vietnamese Family Warmth airs at 8:20 p.m. every Friday on HTV7. The program is produced by Bee Media Company in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Television, with the support of Hoa Sen Home Construction Materials & Interior Supermarket System (Hoa Sen Group) and Hoa Sen Plastic Pipe - Source of Happiness.
