Continue to affirm its position as one of the key agricultural products of the North. Lychee consumption output reached more than 182,500 tons as of July 7, 2025, exceeding the plan by 105.4%. This success is the result of continuous efforts to diversify consumption channels, from supermarkets, e-commerce platforms, domestic industrial parks to demanding international markets such as the US, EU, Japan, and Canada...
Diversify and innovate consumption channels
The domestic market continues to be the mainstay of lychee consumption, with about 119,600 tons, accounting for 65.5% of total output. Luc Ngan lychee is now widely distributed through traditional channels such as wholesale markets, traditional markets, and modern channels such as supermarkets, shopping malls, and convenience store chains. Supermarket chains such as Saigon Co.op , Central Retail, and MM Mega Market have actively participated in distribution, with flexible prices depending on the region: the North from 15,000-25,000 VND/kg, the Central region 25,000-40,000 VND/kg, and the South 30,000-50,000 VND/kg.
To bring lychee closer to consumers in the capital, the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province has coordinated with Hanoi city to launch a lychee week from mid-June 2025. Points of sale are located in apartment buildings, large urban areas, and the Hoan Kiem Lake walking street, creating favorable conditions for people to access high-quality products. The program not only promotes consumption but also promotes the Luc Ngan lychee brand, affirming the value of agricultural products meeting VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.
A highlight in the domestic consumption strategy is the introduction of lychee to industrial zones. Bac Ninh province recently organized the program "Luc Ngan Lychee Week" in industrial zones to spread the value of lychee to more than 230,000 workers. Each point of sale consumes an average of 500-700 kg of lychee per day, serving workers during the off-duty hours from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event not only meets consumer demand but also creates opportunities for workers and foreign experts, especially from China, to experience the flavor of Luc Ngan specialties.
Conquering the international market
Lychee exports in 2025 will reach about 63,000 tons, accounting for 34.5% of total output, with China leading the market (62,100 tons), followed by the EU (167 tons), the US (116 tons), Japan (163 tons), Canada (143 tons), Australia (212 tons), and the Middle East (50 tons)... Fastidious markets such as the US, EU, and Japan require lychees to meet strict standards on quality, traceability, and food safety. Thanks to the application of VietGAP and GlobalGAP production processes, Luc Ngan lychees have affirmed their position.
A proud milestone, when Bac Ninh lychees appeared on the shelves of Costco supermarkets, one of the largest retail chains in the US. Dragonberry Company (USA) has cooperated with Vietnamese partners since 2022, successfully exporting 100 tons of fresh lychees to the US, Canada and Japan in 2025. According to Ms. Amy Nguyen, Chairman of Dragonberry, said: The major challenge is the limited capacity for irradiation treatment in Vietnam, increasing logistics costs and affecting the freshness of the lychees. The company hopes to receive support to develop lychee varieties suitable for long-distance transportation and upgrade the logistics system.
In Europe, more than 100 tons of early-ripening lychees from Tan Yen district landed at Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris, on June 14, through Mova Plus Joint Stock Company (Czech Republic). The shipment was distributed to Rungis International Market, the world's largest agricultural market, serving 18 million consumers in France and neighboring countries. With a wholesale price of 7.2-8 euros/kg, Tan Yen early-ripening lychees have won over European consumers thanks to their sweet taste and consistent quality. The modern cold storage and logistics system at Rungis ensures freshness, opening up opportunities for other Vietnamese agricultural products such as passion fruit, dragon fruit and fragrant rice.
Accompanying litchi growers
The success of the 2025 lychee crop cannot be achieved without the decisive leadership of the new Bac Ninh provincial leadership. Immediately after the merger, at the regular meeting in early July 2025, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan directed to strengthen connections for lychee consumption, especially with enterprises in the industrial park. Afterwards, comrade Vuong Quoc Tuan also directly joined the working group to visit the lychee growing area and witnessed the signing ceremony of purchasing 100 tons of lychee between cooperatives and enterprises in the industrial park such as Foxconn (30 tons), Welstory (11 tons), Crystal Martin (10 tons), and Luxshare Vietnam (10 tons).
Accompanying people to consume lychee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thinh livestreamed to sell lychee within the framework of "Luc Ngan Lychee Week - Pride of Vietnamese Agricultural Products". Right in the first session, in just 6 hours of broadcasting, Mr. Thinh and his team sold and consumed 55 tons of lychee. The livestream attracted orders from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and international markets such as the US, Japan, and Australia. Mr. Pham Van Thinh shared: "I believe in Luc Ngan lychee and want to spread that belief to consumers". Mr. Thinh's livestream not only promoted lychee consumption but also inspired farmers and the younger generation to participate in digital transformation in agriculture.
The leaders of Bac Ninh province also directed to promote the application of digital transformation to expand the lychee consumption market for people. The Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with TikTok Shop and Sendo Farm Online Supermarket to organize Farm Tour, Mega Live activities, and livestream skills training for farmers. In addition, the province has organized trade promotion delegations in China to promote lychee; organized a conference to promote the consumption of lychee and OCOP products to connect businesses, cooperatives and traders, creating a foundation for product consumption agreements.
With a methodical strategy and the support of leaders, businesses and people, the 2025 lychee crop has basically ended, promising to continue to conquer domestic and foreign markets, affirming its position on the global agricultural map ■
