RT quoted the Russian Defense Ministry 's announcement stating that the Ukrainian army mobilized six mechanized battalions and two tank battalions in a counterattack in the southern Donetsk region on June 4. However, Ukrainian forces suffered heavy losses when they came under fire from Russian artillery near the settlements of Neskuchnoye and Novodarovka, about 100 km west of Donetsk city.
The result of the Ukrainian counterattack in South Donetsk was unsuccessful with 300 soldiers killed, 16 tanks, 26 armored vehicles and 14 motor vehicles put out of action.

“Ukraine has failed to achieve its goals,” the Russian Defense Ministry stressed.
The statement from the Russian Defense Ministry came after Moscow announced that Ukraine had attempted a counterattack to break through Russian defenses in five areas of the Donetsk frontline.
The Russian Defense Ministry also added that Russian armed forces and border guards had prevented a new attempt by the Ukrainian army to penetrate into the Belgorod region.
According to the report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there were at least 29 clashes between the Ukrainian army and Russian forces in the two regions of Donetsk and Lugansk.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry did not comment on the information posted by Russia.
From early 2023, Ukrainian officials have announced a counter-offensive campaign to regain control of lost areas.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly said that Kiev is “ready” for the offensive, but “still needs a little more time” to receive sufficient weapons aid from the West.
