A place to sow hope for children with disabilities

Thai Nguyen Center for Supporting the Development of Inclusive Education is considered a “cradle” that nurtures hope for thousands of disabled children in the province. It is not simply an educational facility, but a home of compassion, where those working in special education devote their wholeheartedness, love and noble professional ideals.

The Center was established under the Charter of the Vietnam Organization for Supporting Disadvantaged Children (QSEDC) on July 27, 1995. After 4 times the Provincial People's Committee issued decisions to change the name and convert the operating model to suit each stage of development, the Center has increasingly affirmed its pioneering role in building a fair and humane educational environment for children with disabilities.

In the early days, the Center was just a simple classroom with 40 students and 7 teachers, mainly for children with hearing impairment, visual impairment and intellectual disabilities. Each child had a touching story, some could not hear or speak, some had never seen the light, some had difficulties in cognition and daily activities. But it was these disadvantages that became the motivation for the team of teachers to persevere in guiding and helping the children regain their confidence and self-worth.

From simple classrooms, with love and constant dedication, teachers have created a humane learning space, where every deficiency is compensated by knowledge, sharing and hope.

Each classroom at the Center is a separate world , with the specific color of each type of disability, but all converge the spirit of compassion and the patient perseverance of the professionals. In the classroom of deaf students, there are no loud lectures or bustling exchanges, but the connection is still present.

Teachers and students communicate using sign language, visual images and lively interactive activities. In that seemingly quiet space, every glance, gesture and nod becomes the sound of understanding, where knowledge is transmitted with deep affection and empathy.

In the classroom for blind students, the clacking sound of diligent fingers on the Braille board resounds regularly. Teachers not only explain in words but also vividly describe each image and concept, helping students perceive the world through rich imagination. Each lesson is a journey of discovery , where students learn to perceive life with all their heart and extraordinary willpower.

For students with intellectual disabilities, the Center pays special attention to life skills and self-service education. From knowing their own name, greeting, thanking, to feeding themselves, taking care of themselves, seemingly simple things are joys and great achievements for teachers and families. More than knowledge, the most valuable thing is helping them develop life skills, confidence and the ability to integrate into the community.

Along with cultural education, the Center develops physical fitness, nurtures artistic talents and provides career guidance. Classes in music, singing, sports, handicrafts, sewing, embroidery, information technology, etc. help develop personal abilities and open up a path of independence for students after graduation. Medals and performances are proof of the desire to overcome fate and the individual brilliance of each student.

With the goal of helping disabled students integrate into the community, after 30 years of construction and development, the Center has become a prestigious specialized educational institution in Thai Nguyen province with 19 classes, 260 students from preschool to secondary school. The facilities are spacious, the teaching staff is well-trained, experienced and dedicated to the profession.

Behind these achievements are the great contributions of previous generations of leaders, who laid the foundation with their passion and humanistic vision. Continuing the tradition, the current Board of Directors constantly innovates management methods, improves professional quality and expands the scale of operations to meet specific educational needs.

Every staff member, teacher, employee and support team, regardless of their position, silently contributes with responsibility and love, creating a safe, friendly and humane learning environment. Teacher Dang Thi Kien shared: As someone who has been closely associated with deaf students for many years, I have witnessed the miraculous changes in them. Every day in class is not just about teaching but also a journey of accompanying, sharing and giving them the strength to rise up in life.

Over the years, the Center has always received attention and support from leaders at all levels, agencies and the community, creating a solid foundation for sustainable development. At the same time, the Center promotes cooperation, consulting, career guidance and support for inclusive education, helping students confidently integrate into society and build an equal and humane educational environment.

“We want this place to be like a second home, a place to sow the seeds of love, faith and hope, helping children maximize their abilities to confidently integrate into the community,” shared teacher Nguyen Thi Kim Nhung, Director of the Center.
