Breaking News: CAHN Club officially loses to Tampines 0-3 by AFC, incurring a 1 billion VND loss for using players illegally.

Hanoi Police FC (CAHN FC) has officially been handed a 0-3 defeat by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in the first leg of the AFC Champions League Round of 16 against Tampines Rovers. The penalty was announced on February 17th, the first day of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse).

CAHN Club was handed a loss in the first leg match against Tampines Rovers.

CAHN FC defeated Tampines Rovers 4-0 in the first leg of the AFC Champions League Round of 16. However, the Vietnamese representative was unable to maintain this result in the second leg against the Singaporean team at Jalan Besar Stadium on February 18th.

Due to the use of two ineligible players, Stefan Mauk and Rogerio Alves, CAHN Club was handed a 0-3 defeat by the AFC.

Both Mauk and Alves received three yellow cards in the group stage, with the third yellow card coming in the final match, meaning they will miss the first leg of the AFC Champions League round of 16 to serve their suspensions.

Nevertheless, coach Alexandre Polking still used both players. Mauk played the full 90 minutes, while Alves played 64 minutes and scored one goal (the goal that increased the score to 3-0). According to the tournament regulations, teams using players who do not meet the eligibility criteria will be penalized with a 0-3 loss in that match. Therefore, the final result of the first leg at Hang Day Stadium was CAHN FC losing 0-3 to Tampines Rovers.

The return match between the two teams (scheduled for February 18th) in Singapore will proceed as originally planned. To qualify for the quarter-finals, CAHN Club must win by a margin of 4 goals, or at least 3 goals to force the match into extra time.

Breaking News: CAHN Club forfeited their AFC Champions League 2 match for using an ineligible player.

Coach Polking told Thanh Nien Newspaper : "CAHN Club will strive to the very end and must defeat the opponent once again." In the match on February 18th, two players, Rogerio Alves Dos Santos and Stefan Ingo Mauk, were both eligible to play as their suspensions had ended.

Severe financial damage

CAHN Club was fined $2,000. Additionally, the $80,000 participation fee that the team was supposed to receive was reduced to $40,000. Therefore, CAHN Club suffered a loss of $42,000, equivalent to approximately 1 billion VND.

In the AFC Champions League two seasons ago, a Singaporean representative also benefited from an opponent's illegal use of players: Lion City Sailors.

Specifically, in the quarter-final match against Sanfreece Hiroshima, Lion City suffered a heavy 1-6 defeat. However, because Sanfreece used Valere Germain illegally (he was not registered), they were penalized with a 0-3 loss in the first leg. This decision caused the Japanese team to collapse, subsequently drawing 1-1 in the return match against Lion City, and ultimately being eliminated from the competition with an aggregate score of 1-4.

Lion City then went on to finish as runners-up in the AFC Champions League 2.
