Following the merger, Nong Cong commune (Thanh Hoa province) not only expanded its geographical area but also seized a "golden opportunity" to restructure its economy towards a modern and efficient direction. In reality, the economic practices of the local people have undergone a significant change, reflected in a production mindset linked to the market and the application of science and technology. This shift is not limited to changing crops and livestock, but represents a transition from "agricultural production" to "agricultural economy," focusing on added value.

Starting from a poor or near-poor background, many families have risen to a comfortable standard of living thanks to persistent investment in systematic livestock farming and crop cultivation. These new economic models not only help increase income but also create local jobs, reduce migration, and contribute to promoting the New Rural Development movement in the area.

The integrated economic model of Mr. Vu Minh Luong's family in Tan Son village is a vivid example of this transformation. Born into a purely agricultural family, Mr. Luong faced many difficulties in his early years of establishing his business. When the local government implemented a land allocation policy, he boldly leased nearly 1 hectare to develop his economy with fruit trees and aquaculture. Thanks to his persistent application of suitable production methods, his family has risen to become a well-off household, with an income of over 400 million VND per year.

Following the merger, Nong Cong commune redefined its development space and established specific directions for each sector. In agriculture, the locality focused on supporting and replicating effective circular economy models. Leveraging existing potential and advantages, the commune implemented a comprehensive range of solutions, mobilizing the entire political system to participate. Propaganda and technology transfer were intensified, and mass organizations received entrusted capital, creating conditions for people to expand production and improve economic efficiency.

As a result, many high-value economic production models have emerged, such as the high-tech concentrated tomato cultivation model in Tien Luoc village, achieving a value of 500-600 million VND/ha/season; the greenhouse and net house model for growing super-yield cucumbers and baby cucumbers in Dong Tho, Tan Dan, and Le Xa 2 villages, estimated at 200-250 million VND/ha/year; and the model of linked rice production following organic farming and VietGAP standards on an area of 25 hectares in Truong Quang village, yielding a value of 125-130 million VND/ha/year.

In addition, the commune, in coordination with the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, implemented a model using organic fertilizers for sedge plants on 10 hectares in Truong Loan village; and tested organic fertilizer formulas on 5 hectares of sedge in Cong Hoa 2 village. These models have been evaluated for effectiveness and will serve as a basis for replication in the future. To date, the total area under contract farming and product distribution in the commune is projected to reach 262 hectares by 2025.

Beyond traditional production, new agricultural economic models have created high-quality products with a distinct local character. Currently, the commune has 6 OCOP 3-star products, including: Purple Rice from the former Minh Khoi commune; Aiko Melon from the former Nong Cong town; Cung Dien Specialty Clean Rice from the former Minh Nghia commune; Van Thang Incense Sticks from the former Van Thang commune; Nam Khanh Bird's Nest and Nam Khanh Ready-to-Eat Bird's Nest in Jars from the former Van Hoa commune. Thanks to this comprehensive development, the average per capita income in Nong Cong commune currently reaches over 70 million VND/person/year.

The achievements demonstrate the strong transformation of a developing rural area, while affirming the leading role, proactive spirit, and aspiration of the people in building a modern new rural community. Economic models in Nong Cong are proving effective and sustainable, contributing to poverty reduction, income improvement, and creating a solid foundation for the long-term development of the locality.
