Taking advantage of favorable weather, people in Thanh Hoa village (Mai Phu commune) are focusing on irrigation work in the fields to serve the 2026 spring crop production.
Mr. Pham Khac Hong - Secretary of Thanh Hoa village Party Cell said: “The recent storms and floods have caused the village's canal system to be seriously silted up. At this time, we mobilized people to dredge, clear the flow and clear more than 500m of canal. Thanks to the "revolution" of land conversion in 2024, irrigation work has been much more favorable, and after many years, people have been able to produce 100% of the entire village's rice area. This is a key factor that helps the locality take the initiative in water resources, creating a foundation for implementing the spring crop on schedule."
To ensure water supply for production in 2026, since November 10, many localities in the province have simultaneously launched irrigation projects within the fields. Specialized sectors and local authorities mobilized people to dredge canals, remove duckweed, clear water flows, and reinforce banks and field banks to retain water for production. At the same time, management units carried out maintenance, repair and timely repair of damage to irrigation works, ensuring safety and providing enough water for production.
Mr. Phan Viet Lieu - Deputy Director of Nam Ha Tinh Irrigation Company Limited said: "Implementing the movement of the whole people to join the irrigation work to serve production and people's lives (from November 10, 2025 to January 30, 2026), the clusters and stations under the company have arranged maximum human resources to deploy irrigation work in the fields, creating conditions to supply irrigation water for 22,000 hectares of spring rice. At the same time, the unit proactively balances solutions to regulate and operate irrigation works to ensure irrigation water supply, especially for pilot areas of rice production to reduce emissions using the "alternating flood - dry" irrigation method in the coming time".
In order to ensure production for more than 1,500 hectares of spring rice, Dong Loc commune has proactively and early implemented key contents.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dieu - Head of Economic Department, Dong Loc Commune People's Committee said: "All 35 villages in the area have simultaneously carried out internal irrigation; focusing on digging, dredging, and clearing the flow of main canals to prepare to bring water to the fields such as Vinh Xuan, Vinh Xa, Son Phu, Tan Huong villages... Besides, the commune is also urging the construction unit to urgently complete the construction of nearly 2 km of new internal canals."
In Loc Ha commune, the project to build a drainage ditch from Va bridge to Nhon market area with a total investment of nearly 4 billion VND is being accelerated.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Ky - Project Commander said: "When completed, the canal will contribute to timely drainage, minimizing the risk of flooding, creating favorable conditions for agricultural production. After a temporary suspension due to heavy rain and floods, the construction unit is mobilizing maximum human resources and machinery to complete major items such as pouring concrete on the bottom of the canal, building a regulating culvert, making a management road along the route...".
Farmers in localities in the province have also proactively prepared conditions for a successful spring crop such as clearing weeds, cleaning fields, plowing the first crop...
Mr. Nguyen Van Hanh (Van Cu village, Xuan Loc commune) said: "Taking advantage of the sunny weather, I rented a machine to plow the soil for nearly 2 hectares of my family's fields. After the first plowing, I built a bank to retain water to help wash away the alum, kill pathogens and create the necessary moisture for the fields before entering the next steps of cultivation."
Ms. Vo Thi Hong Minh - Director of Ha Tinh Seed and Trading Joint Stock Company said: "To meet the seed demand for the 2026 spring crop, in addition to the company's seed set, the unit has connected with businesses that own exclusive rice varieties, balanced output, and are ready to supply promptly to producers. In particular, with the project of rice cultivation to reduce emissions, the company agrees to support the policy. In the immediate future, we have registered to participate in 2 models applying tray seeding - transplanting machine, alternating flooding and drying on Nep 98 rice variety with an area of 40 hectares in Tung Loc and Cam Binh communes".
In the spring crop of 2026, Ha Tinh strives to plant 59,150 hectares, with an output of over 354,000 tons. Based on the growth period of each variety, the seedlings will be planted within the time frame from January 10 to February 5, 2026. The pilot area for emission reduction production (applying mechanized cluster sowing, row sowing or transplanting machines, combining alternate wetting and drying, applying organic microbial fertilizers, treating stubble with biological products, using straw rollers) reaches 231 hectares.
