Recorded on December 1, in many extensive shrimp ponds in Tan Phu Dong commune, farmers were busy harvesting rice. Good sunny weather helped farmers harvest rice smoothly. The average yield was about 5 tons/ha.
Ms. Hai Thong (Tan Phu Dong commune) has 3 hectares of land cultivated according to the rice-shrimp model. This crop, her family sowed the OM 5451 rice variety. The rice was purchased by traders at 5,300 VND/kg. Ms. Hai Thong shared: "This year, the price of rice is low, while the cost of hiring harvest workers is very high, so there is not much profit."
Mr. Ha Van Hai, Head of the Phu Tan Agricultural and Aquatic Service Cooperative (Tan Phu Dong Commune) said that the cooperative currently has 10 members with 42 hectares of rice-shrimp farming, and farmers are currently focusing on harvesting rice.

Due to low rice prices, farmers are unhappy this season and profits have decreased. Accordingly, OM 5451 rice costs VND5,400/kg, ST25 VND7,800/kg. After harvesting rice, farmers will start raising shrimp and crab.
According to the People's Committee of Tan Phu Dong Commune, the current rice-shrimp production area is about 140 hectares. In recent times, the "natural" production model has not only created year-round jobs, but also helped farmers increase their income.
Because rice cultivation does not use pesticides and shrimp do not eat industrial feed or antibiotics, the products are guaranteed to be clean and meet organic standards, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products.
