Farmers are busy preparing flowers and fruits for Tet (Lunar New Year).

With only about a month left until the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the atmosphere in rural areas throughout Dong Nai province is bustling with activity. From flower gardens and fruit orchards to high-tech agricultural models, farmers are busy tending to and adjusting each final stage of their crops, hoping for a bountiful harvest and good prices for the Tet season.

Busy taking care of the flowers.

For over a month now, Mr. Huynh Van Hoang (residing in Phu My 1 hamlet, Nhon Trach commune) has spent almost all his time in the garden. From early morning to late afternoon, he meticulously cares for, fertilizes, waters, and shapes each potted ornamental plant to serve the Tet market.

Besides focusing on technique, Mr. Hoang also regularly monitors weather and climate developments to promptly apply pest and disease control measures. As a result, his family's flower garden always grows healthily, blooms evenly, and looks beautiful.

This year, Mr. Hoang invested in nearly 400 pots of various types of bougainvillea and 60 pots of apricot blossoms to serve the Tet holiday. The bougainvillea is sold at prices ranging from 500,000 to 15 million VND per pot, depending on the age of the tree, the size of the trunk, the shape, and the quality of the flowers. As for the yellow apricot blossoms, he mainly grows them to satisfy his passion and rents them out to local people for Tet decorations, providing him with extra income while preserving these valuable trees.

Mr. Hoang said: "This year's weather is favorable for bougainvillea but unfavorable for apricot blossom trees. Due to the 13-month leap year, coupled with erratic sunny and rainy weather, many apricot blossom trees in my garden bloomed early or their buds withered before they had a chance to grow (about 20%). I am trying to apply the experience I have accumulated over many years to adjust the care process and limit the early blooming of the apricot blossoms. Despite the difficulties, I still maintain my apricot blossom garden to both satisfy my passion and create an additional source of income for my family," Mr. Hoang confided.

Driven by his passion for ornamental plants, Mr. Huynh Van Hoang is a pioneer in developing the ornamental flower cultivation model in the local area. Having been involved in the profession for over 25 years, he now owns a garden of approximately 5,000 square meters, with nearly 4,000 bougainvillea plants belonging to about 40 rare varieties, including nearly 20 varieties that bloom year-round, along with around 100 potted apricot blossom trees. The value of each ornamental plant ranges from several hundred thousand to several tens of millions of dong. Thanks to this model, his family's finances have become increasingly stable, allowing him to build a spacious house and provide for his children's education.

Not only has Mr. Hoang enriched himself, but he is also willing to share his experience in growing flowers and ornamental plants with many farmers in the region who share the same passion, contributing to the formation of new production methods and increasing income for local people.

Meanwhile, Mr. Do Van Phuc (residing in Binh Loi village, Da Kia commune) is busy preparing for the Tet flower season with a different approach. This year, he invested in 1,000 finished pots of cyclamen flowers, with many varieties to serve the market. In addition to online sales, his family also distributes products directly at flower stalls and showrooms. The price of each pot of cyclamen flowers ranges from 120,000 to 300,000 VND, depending on the variety, flower quality, and pot size…

According to Mr. Phuc, carnations are mainly used to decorate homes, workplaces, and living spaces, and can be enjoyed year-round, so the demand during Tet (Lunar New Year) doesn't "explode" like traditional flowers such as apricot blossoms, peach blossoms, and chrysanthemums. However, based on market observations, he still expects the demand for carnations to gradually increase in the coming time.

Mr. Phuc is a pioneer in growing cyclamen in the Da Kia area, choosing a unique path to build his brand. He independently researched and created a unique growing medium and care process, focusing on product quality and providing technical advice to customers. Currently, his cyclamen garden covers approximately 5,000 square meters, with over 130,000 plants belonging to more than 400 varieties. His products are sold steadily throughout the country, especially in major cities. This model not only provides a high income for his family but also creates jobs for many local workers, prioritizing people with disabilities and the elderly.

Expectations of "good harvest, good prices"

In Ward 4, Tan Trieu Commune, Mr. Le Thanh Trung is focusing on tending his 6,000 square meter pomelo orchard for Tet (Lunar New Year). With a long tradition of cultivating pomelo trees, Mr. Trung has extensive experience in caring for and regulating the trees to ensure they bear fruit at the right time.

This year, Mr. Trung's family expects to harvest around 10,000 pomelos, a slight increase compared to last year. However, the current price of pomelos is only about 200,000 VND per 12 fruits, while the price during the same period last year was 230-250,000 VND per 12 fruits. Therefore, Mr. Trung continues to invest in improving the appearance and quality of his trees, hoping to achieve a "double benefit" of both a good harvest and good prices.

In 2003, when he got married, Mr. Trung received over 2 hectares of orchard land from his parents. Since then, he has persistently developed the sweet pomelo variety as his main crop, while boldly applying scientific and technological advancements to production, investing in machinery and equipment to reduce labor. In particular, he applies the IMO organic fertilizer technique, which both reduces costs and creates clean, safe products for consumers. Thanks to his systematic approach, avoiding trends, his family's pomelo products consistently maintain quality and stable sales.

Besides being skilled in business, Mr. Trung actively participates in new rural development movements, readily supporting and sharing his experience with fellow villagers.

In the Ruong Lon neighborhood of Bao Vinh ward, Mr. Nguyen Van Dong has boldly switched from less efficient crops (such as coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, etc.) to growing cantaloupe nearly three years ago, covering an area of over 3,000 square meters. Each year, he consistently grows three crops of cantaloupe, providing a stable income for his family.

According to Mr. Dong, cantaloupe sells quite well during Tet (Lunar New Year), with prices usually higher than at other times of the year. This year's weather has been favorable, and the melon plants have grown well, so he is very pleased with the high yield. "Last year, the price of cantaloupe during Tet fluctuated around 40,000 VND/kg, which was already profitable. I hope this year the price will be a little higher so that farmers can have more income and a more prosperous Tet," Mr. Dong shared.
