In the first 6 months of the year, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ninh province completed the plan to plant 33,210 hectares of winter-spring crops. The total food output of the province reached more than 101,880 tons, achieving 100% of the growth scenario for the first 6 months of the year.
In particular, rice continues to play a leading role with a cultivated area of 14,565 hectares. The average yield of the spring crop in the whole province reached 55.2 quintals/ha, an increase of 1 quintal/ha compared to the same period last year, bringing the total estimated rice output to over 80,400 tons.
Mr. Ho Quang Hanh, Binh Duong Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative, affirmed: "This is a year with many unusual weather fluctuations, but the results of the spring rice crop in the commune are a victory. The rice is plump and the grains are firm. The rice varieties Khang Dan, Huong Thom, Dai Thom, DT 100 and DT 120 all yield 6 tons/ha".
To achieve this result, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has proactively implemented pest management, field sanitation and plant protection plans for the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop. Specialized agencies have closely monitored developments, investigated and forecasted pests, and closely coordinated with localities to guide farmers in timely and effective handling.
In addition, other key crops also achieved impressive results. Mr. Nguyen Duy Toan, Director of Agricultural Technical Services Region 2, shared: "Nearly 300 hectares of Phuong Nam early-ripening litchi in Yen Tu ward this year won in terms of price and quality. The entire area has been accompanied by the people and local authorities in implementing technical solutions, bringing in revenue of nearly 60 billion VND. This is a crop maintained according to VietGAP standards and the OTAP program, ensuring quality, food safety, and meeting the conditions for traceability and export".
The forestry sector also achieved many positive results in the first 6 months of the year. Forestry units and member households have urgently recovered the damaged area caused by storm No. 3, cleaned the forest and prepared the site for the 2025 forest planting season. To date, the total forest planting area in the province is estimated at nearly 27,500 hectares. The output of exploited forest wood is estimated at 875,365 m3, exceeding the growth scenario by 1.2% and increasing by 91.2% over the same period.
Mr. To Anh Ha, Head of Technical Department, Van Don Forestry One Member Co., Ltd., said: The company's forest planting plan this year has increased due to the impact of natural disasters. The area of new production forests has also increased, and the number of seedlings produced by the company has increased from 1.2 million to 1.7 million trees to ensure supply. The company has completed 100% of the 400 hectares of production forests directly implemented by the unit and reached 80% for the 500 hectares assigned to member households, expected to complete the whole thing this July when the rainy season begins.
In livestock farming, the total herd of livestock and poultry in the province remained stable. The output of fresh meat was estimated at 48,336 tons, exceeding the growth scenario by 0.6% and increasing by 1.9% over the same period. Pork prices remained stable (67,000 - 69,000 VND/kg), helping farmers make a profit. Poultry prices also increased to 60,000 - 65,000 VND/kg from the beginning of June, bringing profits to farmers. The Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that farmers pay attention to heat prevention, disease reduction and good vaccination. At the same time, the province continues to implement plans to relocate livestock facilities out of inner-city areas, towns and townships.
The aquaculture sector also recorded many positive results. Thanks to the efforts of aquaculture households, together with the support of local authorities and professional agencies, the total aquaculture output of the province in the first 6 months of the year reached nearly 90,000 tons, exceeding the growth scenario by 9.3% and increasing by 1.6% over the same period. Of which, the output of exploitation reached 41,395.1 tons and that of aquaculture reached 48,536.1 tons.
In particular, the fight against IUU fishing (Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing) has achieved positive results, with no cases of fishing vessels violating foreign waters. In June, the Department of Agriculture and Environment presided over and coordinated with the Provincial Police, Provincial Border Guard, localities and the Management Board of Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long National Park, to develop Inter-sectoral Plan No. 3272 to carry out a peak period of patrolling, controlling and handling violations in fishing activities in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. After 21 days of implementation, 173 fishing vessels were inspected and 60 violations were detected.
With the flexible management of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, and the efforts of farmers, establishments, enterprises, the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector grew by 4.61% in the first 6 months of the year. This result has a positive meaning, contributing with other sectors to bring the economic growth rate of GRDP in the first 6 months of 2025 of Quang Ninh to an impressive level of 11.03%. This is a step to concretize the tasks of the sector in implementing the province's working theme for 2025: "Breakthrough in economic development, creating momentum for the new term".
