My Tho commune has a distinct advantage in agricultural production with concentrated mango growing areas and specialized rice fields.

However, in practice, if the focus remains solely on planting, harvesting, and selling raw agricultural products, the value generated does not match the potential; farmers' income remains heavily dependent on seasonal variations and market fluctuations.
Recognizing this, the Party Committee and the local government of My Tho commune quickly determined that agricultural development in the new era cannot rely solely on increasing production, but must shift strongly towards an agricultural economic mindset, with efficiency and sustainability as the overarching goals.
Currently, the entire commune has over 1,300 hectares of mangoes and nearly 2,900 hectares of rice, of which 65% of the mango area and 90% of the rice area have been granted planting area codes.
This is an important foundation for localities to reorganize production along the value chain, reduce dependence on traders, and gradually increase the value of agricultural products.
Comrade Pham Thi Ngoc Dao, Secretary of the Party Committee of My Tho commune, said that the goal the locality is aiming for is to increase the average per capita income by 1.5 times compared to the current level.
To achieve that goal, the commune did not choose to prioritize production volume, but instead focused on transforming into safe and green agriculture, exploiting the multi-valued aspects of each product line.
Based on the orientation of developing safe and organic agriculture associated with exploiting multiple values, many production models have been implemented and replicated in the commune, such as: apple cultivation in greenhouses, safe mulberry production, and processed products from local agricultural products such as mango sandwiches, mango yogurt, mulberry jam, etc.
Local people also utilize locally sourced ingredients to create OCOP products. In particular, agricultural production linked with ecotourism is opening up a new direction, helping farmers increase their income right on their own land.
The Mango Trail Farmstay (My Xuong hamlet) is an agricultural tourism model combined with eco-tourism that has shown clear effectiveness.
Ms. Ho Thi Thu Thuy, owner of The Mango Trail Farmstay, shared: “Driven by the desire to preserve the mango orchard in a natural and safe way, my family has gradually renovated the garden space and invested in experiential services to welcome guests.”
Visitors come here not only for relaxation but also to hear stories about the mango trees and how farmers practice clean agriculture. When tourists understand the process and the value of safe agricultural products, they are willing to buy the products at a higher price. As a result, income from the mango orchard comes not only from selling the fruit but also from tourism services.”
In practice, when agriculture is organized in a green and multi-valued way, farmers not only sell agricultural products, but also sell experiences and stories about their products.
"We believe that each mango orchard, each rice field, each fruit garden should not only produce agricultural products, but also generate higher economic value through linkages between production and consumption, processing, services, and ecotourism."
"The government plays a role in accompanying, organizing, and supporting, so that the people are truly the main actors in economic development," Comrade Pham Thi Ngoc Dao emphasized.
