More than just a music video, "The Country Today," at over 8 minutes long, is like a grand narrative about the journey of the nation's formation, struggles, construction, and future aspirations in contemporary life.
On January 22nd, in Hanoi , People's Artist Quoc Hung and musician Nguyen Thanh Trung officially introduced the music video to the audience.
Released just in time to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the music video "Today's Country" is constructed as a meticulously crafted artistic whole, combining music , vocals, and visuals in the style of a modern epic and grand choral piece, aiming to evoke national pride and a sense of civic responsibility through profound emotions.
The epic poem "The Country Today" consists of six chapters, each playing a distinct role in the intellectual development. From the sacred space of our origins, through the challenges of history, to the image of a nation striving for development, integration, and looking towards the future, the work creates a continuous and purposeful flow.
The music is solemn and rich in lyrical qualities, yet not rigid. The melody is tightly controlled, with sections that expand the emotional space and pauses that allow the listener to reflect. The tightness of the musical structure helps the work transcend the boundaries of a typical song, moving closer to an epic form with a clear ideological "architecture."
According to composer Nguyen Thanh Trung, the common song format with two or three stanzas is still insufficient to fully express the thoughts about the country that he cherishes.
It was this sense of inadequacy that prompted him to seek out the epic-choral structure, a form that allows multiple voices to coexist in a unified flow: the voice of history, of life, of community, and of each individual.

People's Artist Quoc Hung, singer Thu Hang, and the Choir of the Vietnam National Academy of Music perform the epic poem 'The Country Today.'
The choice of People's Artist Quoc Hung and singer Thu Hang to perform the work also reflects this spirit. People's Artist Quoc Hung's deep, steady bass voice brings a sense of ritual depth and solemnity to the declarative passages, while Thu Hang's soft, feminine voice helps the work retain its lifelike quality, avoiding a stiff or rigid feel.
People's Artist Quoc Hung said that his decision to perform the song stemmed primarily from his trust in and long-standing professional relationship with composer Nguyen Thanh Trung.
"When I sing, I feel very clearly the journey of the country, from its formation through blood and tears, through the years when our ancestors bravely fought against foreign invaders, to the period of reform, construction, and learning to rise strongly as it is today," People's Artist Quoc Hung expressed.
The fact that the music video was released just in time to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam made that feeling even more complete.
Director Anh Quân and his team worked 20 hours a day to complete the music video celebrating the Party Congress on time.
