Students and actors from the Xóm Kịch theater group interacted with Meritorious Artist Ca Lê Hồng - former principal of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Film.

On the afternoon of December 9th, at the Traditional Room of the Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theatre – a place preserving the century-long history of Cai Luong art – nearly 20 students and young actors from the Xom Kich Theatre had an emotional meeting and professional discussion with Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong.

The exchange session created a serious yet approachable academic atmosphere, providing an opportunity for the younger generation to connect with the vivid historical stories of an artist who lived through many significant periods of the country's history.

Valuable documents and memories of a historical witness.

In the warm golden light of the traditional setting, Meritorious Artist Ca Lê Hồng slowly introduced the precious documents of the Trần Hữu Trang Theater – where she spent more than half her life. Each photograph, each page of history about the Southern Cai Luong Troupe, was recounted by her from the perspective of an insider: the days of traveling to perform for the people and the soldiers; the generous and compassionate spirit of Southern Cai Luong artists; the dedication of the stage amidst the flames of war.

Meritorious Artist Ca Lê Hồng converses with students and young actors at the Trần Hữu Trang Theater.

In particular, she recounted her time relocating to the North, joining the performing arts force, and especially her unforgettable memory: participating in the construction of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and performing at the Presidential Palace, where she had the honor of meeting President Ho Chi Minh.

Her voice was warm and soothing as she recalled that sacred moment – a memory that left many students speechless, clearly sensing the interplay between national history and the artist's personal journey.

A teacher of perseverance and professional discipline.

Despite her retirement, Meritorious Artist Ca Lê Hồng maintains a passionate dedication to her profession. Currently a member of the Arts Council of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports , she remains actively involved in teaching, training, and providing professional advice to many performing arts groups.

During the exchange, she spent a lot of time analyzing common mistakes made by young actors: Stage voice techniques: how to breathe, articulate, articulate, and maintain rhythm so that the voice is both resonant and emotionally rich, without losing its intensity during extended performances. Methods of character immersion: not copying emotions but drawing from within, based on the character's fate, circumstances, and psychological rhythm. Professional ethics: persistent training, maintaining discipline in the profession, and treating the stage as a sacred place to offer something beautiful to the audience. Many students took notes on every word she said, because it wasn't just about technique, but the experience of a lifetime of exemplary work.

Emotions of the younger generation

The conversation ended, but the impact lingered for a long time. Many young actors shared that they felt "re-energized." Student Tran Long (K7) shared: "The teacher showed us how to improve our pronunciation, but it was like outlining a long path we have to follow to improve. I know I'm still weak, but I don't feel discouraged; instead, I feel I have to try harder."

The young actors were fascinated by viewing precious images of traditional national theater.

"Her example in the profession has made us understand that art is not just about the spotlight, but also about responsibility to the community and to history," shared student Jackie Anh (k6).

For young people, the dedication of Meritorious Artist Ca Lê Hồng is a lesson in the profession and a reminder of the right attitude towards life: to practice the profession with seriousness, gratitude, and a desire to contribute. In the context of the theater's efforts to train a new generation of successors, exchanges like this become a valuable bridge between the past and the present. Meritorious Artist Ca Lê Hồng, with a lifetime of proud dedication to her profession, has instilled in young artists the belief that the stage can only truly shine when each actor keeps the flame of their craft alive and continues the values that previous generations have painstakingly cultivated.
