Participating in youth movements helped me "soften" my personality.

Last Friday, Nguyen Ha Linh, a fourth-year student at the University of Technology (UT), Vietnam National University , Hanoi, was honored with the "January Star" Award 2025.

With a GPA of 3.95/4.0, Ha Linh received the "Outstanding Student" award from the University of Technology for several academic years.

In the 2024-2025 academic year, the female student won first prize in the "Student Scientific Research" competition at both the faculty and university levels.

Also in 2025, I won the "Most Loved Product" award at the "Student Product Innovation" competition - FIT Tech Spark 2025; a Toshiba Japan scholarship (academic year 2024-2025); a BIDV scholarship (academic year 2023-2024); and second prize in the "Technology Innovation Ideas 2023" competition.

Notably, Ha Linh is also a co-author of an ISI/Q1 ranked article published in the journal Future Generation Computer Systems; a co-author of a patent with a valid application for the work "Process for identifying noisy labels by combining local and global relationships of data"; and recipients of the "Outstanding Student" award at the city and university levels, as well as many other titles.

According to Ha Linh, the "January Star" award is not just a title, but one of the dreams she strives for in her studies and research. This award is a milestone in her student journey – a recognition of her persistent efforts over many years of studying, training, and contributing to the university.

This award also became a motivation for the final-year student to continue striving and becoming more confident on her chosen path, especially as she enters more advanced stages of study and research.

In addition to her excellent academic results, Ha Linh is also very active in extracurricular activities.

"Participating in youth union and student association activities has helped me 'soften' myself, develop teamwork, organizational, time management, and stress-handling skills – all essential abilities for technology students entering the real-world work environment."

However, to effectively balance the many activities within the 24 hours of each day, I always proactively plan and arrange a specific schedule for each task,” Ha Linh said.

Two inseparable pieces

According to Ha Linh, to achieve impressive academic and research results, she proactively attended lectures and reviewed material right from her early years of university.

Under the guidance of her instructors, Ha Linh proactively participated in laboratory work from an early age and gradually pursued scientific research.

"Participating in the lab at an early age helped me gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter, become familiar with new technologies, and hone my problem-solving skills."

"I maintain a balance between my studies at university and scientific research, considering them two inseparable 'pieces' in my academic journey," the female student shared.

According to Ha Linh, the most memorable milestone in her research journey was the project to automatically detect error labels at the Software Engineering department's laboratory (iSE Lab).

Under the guidance of many leading experts and professors, this is the first project that has introduced me to in-depth scientific research, from reading literature and formulating problems to conducting research and publishing results.

Not only did the project win first prize in scientific research at the faculty and university levels and publish in a Q1 journal, but it also helped me gain experience, hone my scientific thinking, and improve my presentation skills.

According to Ha Linh, throughout her more than three years of university, what she is most proud of about herself is daring to try, not being afraid to make mistakes, and boldly pursuing what she loves.

The female student believes that, if appropriate, every student should boldly participate in academic and extracurricular activities because the experience helps each person mature and improve themselves every day.

"Every title or award is valuable, but the journey of striving to achieve them is even more meaningful. We shouldn't put too much pressure on ourselves regarding achievements; instead, we should live life to the fullest, study diligently, and persevere on the path we have chosen," the female student shared.

The "January Star" Award is a prestigious award of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Union, awarded annually to student union and association officials who have achieved excellent results in their studies, training, and in their work with the Youth Union and student movements in schools, as well as in student association and student movements.
