According to information announced by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) at the closing ceremony of the contest on September 19, the letter of Pham Doan Minh Khue, class 10C2, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Da Nang, won the international second prize (Silver medal).
The first prize (Gold medal) of the competition was awarded to a student from Türkiye, while the third prize (Bronze medal) went to a representative from Burkina Faso (a country in West Africa).

This year, the 54th UPU International Letter Writing Competition attracted more than 1.6 million letters from 65 countries around the world. Minh Khue is the 10th Vietnamese student to win an international prize after 37 years of our country participating in this competition. Previously, Vietnamese students won 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, 8 third prizes and 6 consolation prizes.
The 54th UPU International Letter Writing Competition has the theme “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you and protect you”.
With the letter about the movie script titled “The Ocean’s Plea” sent to famous director James Cameron, Minh Khue transformed into the ocean to tell her own story. Minh Khue said that through the letter, she wanted to spread the message of protecting the ocean and arouse the awareness of ocean protection among today’s youth.
Previously, Minh Khue's letter surpassed more than 1.5 million entries from students nationwide and won first prize in the national round.
