Born in Nghe An, but since childhood, Tran Thi Tuong Anh (born 2004) has followed her parents to live and study in many countries around the world . Currently, she is a 12th grade student at Uplands International School, in Penang, Malaysia.

Tuong Anh said she has just received admission notices from 9 American universities, including Wesleyan University, University of Wisconsin - Madison, Boston University, Michigan State University, Drexel University, Mount Holyoke College, Denison University, DePaul University, Union College, and Centre College.

In particular, Wesleyan University (ranked 18th among liberal arts universities, in Connecticut, USA), announced that it would offer Tuong Anh a full scholarship worth 370,000 USD, equivalent to 8.5 billion VND for 4 years of study.

Tuong Anh just received a scholarship to a top US university.

Because both parents are experts at the International Research Organization, Tuong Anh went abroad early. The female student shared: "My parents always value the role of education and always encourage their children's love of learning. In the family, my parents both encourage and are strict with my three sisters' studies."

They do not impose their opinions, always respect their children and give them the right to be independent, to choose to study and do what they like. For example, Tuong Anh's father really likes Biology, but when she did not choose Biology for her high school program, he did not object.

However, once they have agreed and made a choice, their parents have wishes and expectations, reminding Tuong Anh to persevere to achieve the best results.

Her family encourages her to balance her studies with other skills and activities. In addition, her parents also remind her that the world is changing rapidly and that in addition to knowledge, everyone needs health and necessary skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, etc. to adapt to that change.

Therefore, since childhood, Tuong Anh was encouraged by her parents to play many sports such as swimming, athletics, karate to improve her health, play the violin, act... to relax during stressful times.

Tuong Anh's parents are quite open and modern in their thinking about educating their children. They encourage their children to preserve Vietnamese culture such as wearing Ao Dai, cooking Vietnamese dishes on festivals, Lunar New Year, etc.

For many years, until the COVID-19 pandemic, Tuong Anh and her siblings regularly returned to Vietnam twice a year, during the summer and Tet holidays, to visit their paternal and maternal families. On the other hand, their parents also encouraged the three sisters to interact with international friends to learn about culture and knowledge.

Although she only studied in Vietnam for more than 2 years, Tuong Anh is very good at Vietnamese. "Studying in a Vietnamese school for more than 2 years was an important time that helped me learn to read and write Vietnamese and was the foundation for me to learn Vietnamese on my own later on," the female student said.

According to Tuong Anh, although studying at an international school in Malaysia that uses English, in her free time, she still studies by herself according to the textbook program of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training. When she encounters problems she does not understand, she writes them down and consults her parents. That method of learning Vietnamese is applied to Tuong Anh's two younger siblings. Thanks to that, both of them are fluent in Vietnamese even though they have never studied at a school in Vietnam.

In the first semester of grades 4 and 5 (when Tuong Anh studied in Nghe An), she organized free English classes for children in the village every Saturday and Sunday. Although the classroom facilities were lacking, especially in the harsh climate of the Central region, she still maintained the class regularly for 1.5 years.

Not only did Tuong Anh make a mark in her academic achievements, she was also admired by many people in sports, regularly participating in tournaments. To do that, she had to practice with the team coach outside of school hours.

In the morning, I take the bus to school early to practice swimming and athletics for an hour before the official start of school. In the afternoon, I also stay at school to practice after school. As for karate, although I don't participate in competitions, Tuong Anh has pursued it for nearly 10 years and has a black belt.

"On the late bus ride home from school on Wednesdays and Fridays, there are usually only two students, me and my younger brother," Tuong Anh said about her tireless training journey.

Thanks to her karate essay, Wesleyan University awarded Tuong Anh a full scholarship worth 370,000 USD, equivalent to 8.5 billion VND/4 years of study. This is the result of this female student's hard training journey.

Tuong Anh said that her essay was about her 10 years of karate training. In her essay, Tuong Anh focused on the combination of tradition and modernity, the solid and precise foundation of karate, combined with the creative and flexible movements of the female student herself during her training.

"In addition, from karate, I also associate it with discipline and a way of working that is both strict but constantly innovative and creative," the female student said.

With this scholarship, she decided to go to Wesleyan University, majoring in Computer Science. "I want to study additional minors to test my strengths, as well as decide what career I will pursue later," Tuong Anh added.
