Young woman with the dream of "finding stars on her shoulders"

Việt NamViệt Nam03/02/2025

- Spring has come to all the streets, tens of thousands of young people across the country are counting the days to join the army, fulfilling the sacred duty of youth to the Fatherland. Among them, An Giang province has only 1 young woman volunteering to join the army, with the enthusiasm of the youth of Uncle Ton's hometown.

On the 4th day of the Lunar New Year 2025, we were present at the house of young woman Le Nguyen Duong Kim Yen (born in 2003, residing in Binh Khanh 5 Hamlet, Binh Khanh Ward, Long Xuyen City). The whole family was preparing a farewell party for Yen's sister - soldier Le Nguyen Duong Kim Huong (Staff Department, Military Command of An Giang Province) who was going to the Military School of Military Region 7.

This Tet, Kim Yen's family has a lot of joy, one of which is that Kim Yen was selected to perform military service in 2025, adding to the family tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers". "My father is a retired military officer. For me, the image of a soldier permeates my memories, my childhood. When I was young, I was sent to the unit with my father. The sirens and alarm bells are so familiar to me" - Yen shared.

After graduating from high school, Kim Yen chose to enroll in An Giang Medical College, majoring in pharmacy. After 3 years of studying, Yen graduated with excellent results throughout the course, qualified to transfer to university without going through an entrance exam. But she remained steadfast in the path she had chosen – to become a soldier of the heroic Vietnam People's Army.

For the second time in a row, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa witnessed her daughter become a soldier. Every time she received news that her daughter was eligible to join the army, she felt emotional, moved, and worried. However, with the comfort of her soldier husband, the encouragement of local organizations, and the enthusiasm of her two children, she was confident that both of them would complete all assigned tasks well, regardless of the circumstances. Ms. Hoa expressed: "Although the military environment is full of difficulties and challenges, I still firmly believe that my children will complete all assigned tasks well."

Saying goodbye to Kim Yen’s family in the late afternoon, we still clearly remember Kim Huong and Kim Yen’s words: “All of our achievements today are due to our own training. Having the honor of being soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Army, my sisters and I are determined to train and make every effort to not disappoint our parents, together continuing the dream of “finding stars on our shoulders”, continuing the military career path that our predecessors have chosen!”
